Have an old stihl that has emotional problems. Looking for a “just get it done” chainsaw. I have to cut 20’ wide road approximately 600 yds in length. Trees no more than 12” diameter.
Any suggestions, favorites, etc.? Other than this project I might need a chainsaw once every 18 months.
Thanks in advance

Stihl MS180 is the GOAT budget indestructible chainsaw.

Probably overkill for what you need but I have an Echo timberwolf which is a beast. I would go Stihl or Echo. Had a Husqvarna which was alot more temperamental.

I picked up a Stihl MS160 after Ida, served me well.
Buddy has the same saw, breaks it about 4 times a year to clear and maintain. No complaints over the past two years for him.
Shits and gets, light, and 170 at Northern Tool.

Echo>>>Stihl
I have 2 Stihls and 2 Echos.
The Stihls are temperamental MF's that don't like to start unless the carb is tuned juuuuust right.
I bought both Echos after hurricanes when my Stihls broke. Never had a single problem with them other than a broken fuel prime bulb after 12 years.

The guy's going to trim a road. He doesn't need a $1500 saw

I think if you want something that will always do what you want you have to go Stihl, and if you want it running right invest in it and only run premix cans. I feel they run much better then mixing on my own.
I absolutely love my ms250 with 18" bar, has much more pop with the 16" bar but I would not hesitate to put a 20" bar if I needed to. It's not to big and can handle some larger trees in a pinch and a bit more careful cutting.
If that feels like it's not enough then I used to own a ms362 and that thing was a fricking monster I wish I never sold it. But I use the ms250 much more often and I er much happier with it than the 362 unless I'm actually logging etc. I would get one size up from what you think you need and the 180 may do it but going up a size or two would be better imo.

Any of the major brands should do...your decision
Every major brand can have issues at some point, so take the comments of this brand is better than this brand with a grain of salt.
I own or have owned each of the major brands of chainsaws and each are good.
Example...the stihl vs. Husqvarna comments...I ran the same fuel/oil mixture and cleaned the air filter regularly on both. Both utilized roughly same hours...the stihl quit and had to end up having new rings put in it.
So is my husqvarna better than my stihl? No
Their both bad arse saws

My next saw will be a Stihl MS261. It’s the “lowest” on their commercial line but gets you away from plastic on the front of the housing and it’s still pretty light. I think they can be had for around $600. If you’re not maintaining a bunch of property or cutting big stuff ms170/180 is the way to go.

If you get a Echo don't use the Redline pre-mix for it. Brought mine back this weekend since it was giving me nothing but issues. The guy told me that this was the 7-8 one he seen brought back for the same issue. Apparently it has a problem with gumming up the carb.

I recommend the spring assisted starting on the Echo CS-4510. I've had several saws over the years, and this one is by far the easiest to start.

I recently bought a Stihl MS291 and an MS211. MS291 has a 20” bar and the MS211 has a 18” bar. I like the 291 the best but the 211 is great for what I got it for which was limbing. Really liked the MS261 but I was able to buy both of the ones I got for the same price.

Husqvarna 460 rancher. Comes with a 24 bar but you can get a 20. More than enough and you will never have to worry about it again

Rent a tractor.
But I have a Stihl 170 (I believe) and it works well
