I usually use myer's rum, buffalo trace and cheapo cognac. I'll look into a nicer bottle of cognac this year. I tried to use some brown sugar last year and couldn't tell much difference.

i have always just stored in gallon water jugs

that Jamaican rum which AB calls for is actually pretty important to the final flavor profile. I used bacardi in the past, but this time I went and made sure to grab some Jamaican. There's a distinctive flavor in it that enhances the egg nog tremendously. This is the first time I made a batch using higher quality spirits, and I will never go back. It's worth it

I started tasting different cognacs to find the one I liked most, and I settled on that PF. I do not like cognacs, but this one is actually really good. I enjoyed sipping on it as is, which was my qualification for anything I was putting into this mixture.

I mean absolutely no offence, but do yourself a favor and use a better rum than Myer’s. There’s way better taste profiles out there fo little if any more money
