Because the paint and 3s can be taken away. No one will try to take away midrange because you will give up either an open lane or 3. That’s why even when BI was cookin the Suns didn’t change their defense. They used timeouts to cool him off.

Really? That’s your argument? LMFAO. A clip of them scoring similarly? You could do the same with MJ and a bum off the street with good enough editing. Kobe is the most notorious bad shot taker AND bad/non passer. That doesnt work in todays NBA and it only worked for Kobe because he played in the worst era in basketball that we have been alive to see. None of you could name the starting 5 of that Magic team

I mean get as mad as you want but Tatum, unlike BI, is not really a mid game artist. He averages almost 40% of his shots from three and 40% of his shots inside 10 feet, and most of those at the rim. Compare that to Kobe and Bi, both averaging over 50% of their shots from 10ft to inside the 3pt line.
BI has stated he models his game off KD and Kobe as well.
I don't think thats a terrible thing though. Kobe may be overrated, but he is still an all time great, and modeling off he and KD's game, with the benefit of today's understanding of efficiency and analytics isn't exactly the worst thing. Unlike Kobe, BI doesn't really frick too much with the super long twos that are now considered bad shots. BI has also worked to make sure he can be a good C&S three point player, even if he couldn't use it much last year due to personnel.

But I think a great many fans have Kobe in the top 10, and he is absolutely not a top 10 all time NBA player. There are 10 guys at least you simply cannot argue Kobe over.
He's in the 13-15 ish range IMO, so obviously not far off but the guys in the top 10 are decidedly better by a wide margin when you get to 13-15 I think.

And if BI ends up in that company emulating a lot of Kobe/KD’s game to do it, I’m not melting over that.
Kobe is a bit overrated, but you also have people like that poster going to extremes the other direction and taking offense to the idea that BI, or anyone that models aspects of their game off Kobe, could be considered a good thing.
i mentioned earlier, but the thing Bi is doing is that if you look at their shot charts, BI is very meticulous with where he takes his shots in the mid range, he does a much better job sticking to his hot spots, while Kobe, playing in the pre-analytics era, would gladly take the longest of twos and all over the map. They share a ton of similar moves and sweet spots on the court, how they iso and get into their shots(ton of KD in his game too), but BI is doing it with the benefit of modern knowledge. So he’s not the “bad shot taker” Kobe was.

If BI turns out like Kobe, I think that's a bit of a win for us
quote:Yep, I love the BI midrange game, he's very efficient with it. I do wish he'd attack the rim more just because I think he's very efficient there but doesn't quite do it enough but I'm almost never mad when takes a mid range jumper, I feel like they're almost always going in.

Dwight
Jameer Nelson
Hedo Turkelu or however you spell it
That’s 3 and I was like 12 at the time and know those at least.
But I agree, that era was terrible and Kobe had to get Pau Gasol and Ron Artest to come join him to win again

What do I win?
ETA: I looked it up after my guess. The starters in the playoffs were
Courtney Lee
Rafer Alston
Turkoglu
Lewis
Howard
JJ, Nelson, Pietrus were the first off the bench.

Kobe should be admired for his work ethic and cold blooded mentality NOT his play style, shot selection, passing, or leadership. If he swallowed his pride he would have more championships because he would’ve played with Shaq more. Not top 15. People need to stop giving players credit for team accomplishments. Lakers still 3 peat with a “lesser” player liked TMac. On the other hand if you switch out LeBron for anyone else no one is bringing those Cavs teams to the finals. Especially in 07 and 18
Posted on 6/17/22 at 11:39 am to PrayingMantis
You can take Kobe's team accomplishments away, he's still around top 15 all time.

Proves my point in multiple ways. None of us could have gotten that right even with a gun to our head. That’s how sorry Kobe’s competition was. His other ship without Shaq was beating out of prime KG, out of prime Pierce and out of prime Ray Allen. I will say Rondo was in his prime though but that playstyle would barely get bench minutes in todays NBA. If you can’t shoot you are a huge liability and make it easy for defenses to guard you

MJ LeBron Kareem Magic Bird Shaq Wilt Curry Hakeem Russell and Duncan. So yea I guess you are actually spot on when you said 13-15. That being said WAY to many people have in the top 10 or even top 5 or even more insane the top 3. LIKE JAYSON TATUM! People who think he is top 5 and above need to be strapped to a chair and shown how selfish is shite selection was. How quickly people forget

No doubt. The tragic death makes it difficult to ever be critical of Kobe publicly.

And don’t forget that Kobe’s utterly awful Game 7 performance is what kept Boston in the game for three quarters. He was the best thing the Celtics had going in that game.

According to Shams, the Lakers and Knicks are both "in play" for Kyrie.
How they could make that work I have no idea.

Man, how badly has Kyrie managed to frick up KD's legacy?
I honestly don't know how KD isn't seething fricking mad at Kyrie at this point?
Part of it is on him for teaming up and walking away from the Warriors, but Kyrie is truly franchise cancer. It's a miracle Lebron was able to keep him in line long enough to win a ring. Him to the Knicks would be an absolute shitshow....and entirely on brand

quote:Gotta think Russ would have to be part of a deal from Lakers. Not sure why the Nets would do that unless they are just set on dumping Kyrie. Knicks likely would have to include Randle to make it work.

What’s in it for the Nets?
Westbrick isn’t doing them any good. The Lakers don’t have a first they can trade until 2027. And it isn’t like their other guys under contract (THT, Nunn, Stanley Johnson, Austin Reaves) are worth much.
