Does anybody still know if the "Fudge Lady" is still alive and baking fudge for the LSU football team?
I remember that from Mickey Guidry's subpar book "Through the Eyes of Number Two".

More importantly, is Mickey still the Vince Lombardi of the CSAL?

How could Mickey be the Vince Lombardi? You would have to have at least one CSAL championship.... Ya think?

She was a friend of Coach Charlie Mac and the family was touched to see him at her wake.

Charlie Mac was a class act. My brother played for him and was one of the many players that received calls from Mac over the years as he checked in on his boys.

Cool story and sorry to hear about her passing.
So do you think the tradition just ended when she passed? Does your wife have the recipes?

I think he has done a good deal with the talent he has. St Jude is not nearly as big as Aloyious or Thomas More. They (Hodson, Mickey and a former LSU lineman that I can't remember his name)have done okay with what they had. I think he believes in developing the players more than he is trying to win championships. Many of his players went on to have really good High School careers and I would think that is what really matters.

I was also on that 98' team that won it all over Most Blessed Sacrament...Mickey, Tommy and Phil were great coaches. Actually one of the players IS in the NFL..Brandon Harrison..had a great career at Catholic and Stanford and now with the Houston Texans following his time at St. Jude.

That's right 98' season. Zach Leger went on to ULL and Thomas Washington went to La Tech... Did anyone else go some where for college ball?

As far as I know, she was the only one that did this..her youngest daughter (lives in Tenn.), has the recipes and if I can get her to send them to me, I'll post them on the food board.

Her youngest daughter got back to me and gave a few more tidbits...
It seems the tradition ended when Dinardo was hired..Wilma "the Fudge Lady", called his office numerous times and left messages to see if she could continue as the players looked forward to the fudge....she never got a call back.
Before the games, she made fudge for the chocolate lovers and divinity for the "non-chocolate" eaters...Terry Robiski we believe is the player that kidded her about "segregating" the candy.

I enjoyed reading this thread. Mickey Guidry was a great back-up QB. Maybe, the best we ever had. And the Fudge Lady reminds me of how my mother use to make sure I had something good to eat before all my home HS football games a long long time ago. Thanks for the post.
