Daronte Jones our DC who many on The Rant were singling out for weekly improvement and "getting us right on defense." Yikes. I understand everyone was traumatized by Pelini but expectations are so low and the bar was set so low that the following numbers were celebrated here up until Kentucky fricking destroyed us

His defensive rankings:

73rd Total Defense
74th Scoring Defense
77th Rushing Defense
72nd Passing Defense
66th Yards Allowed per play
60th Forced Turnovers
12th Total Sacks (yay)
15th Tackles for Loss (yay)
109th 3rd Down Defensive Conversations (YIKES)
79th 1st Downs Allowed

fricking Y I K E S

"Imma hire the best coordinators." frick me those numbers are atrocious. Remember how much the pro O crowd hated Aranda for the 5th, 14th, 26th, and 32nd Total Defense in his 4 years here? Aranda was "making O look bad." Now we have back to back years of Pelini and Daronte.

Daronte was an awful hire.

Not including Pelini's disaster last season, Daronte Jones has the worst LSU defense since 1998 when Lou Tepper had the 91st (out of 112 teams at the time).

Why were people so convinced that Daronte was anything but a trash coordinator. The only reason the numbers aren't worse is because Ed Orgeron's kid fricking sucked as the QB when McNeese played us.

ETA: He makes $1.3 million a year AND is around the 10th highest paid assistant in college football this season

I don’t blame him for being hired for a job he was not qualified for
If Vikings wanted to keep him they would have just like saints did

The terrible 3rd down defense feeds into the 1st 4 things, and last thing that you list.

This shite show will be over soon. If Woodward makes the right hire, the talent is there to turn it around fast.

I believe that the Daronte D has yielded a remarkable 88 points in the second half of just four games against Power 5 opponents. Telltale sign of ineffective adjustments.

I mean, that's O's own fault and not an excuse.

You would have to up the ante. Maybe take 2 million off head coaching salary so the best coordinators could make 1 million more each.

Let this sink in:

Daronte Jones makes $1.3 million a year

Jake Peetz makes $1.2 million a year

The team is bad. Doubt they win another SEC game this year.

Rightfully so the DC and the other coaches are drawing a lot of criticism, but it’s becoming more obvious that our talent level isn’t where it should be,

Some of it can be explained by coaching, but not all if it. We lack heart and instinct. We don’t gang tackle or swarm to the ball, Tackling is terrible and LBs aren’t covering receivers.

Coach O went and asked Joe Brady whom Coach O originally gave little credit to for 19'season, and Dave Aranda who he basically shat on for advice. What comes around goes around.
