It’s actually more when you count all of the buyouts for assistants for two seasons. While it might seem worth the enormous costs how long will it take for LSU to rebuild, that should be included in the costs?

You really think they don’t have enough to at least negotiate the buyout down?

That’s true, I was just wondering had LSU hired Aranda instead, we could be playing for a title without all of these wasted seasons down the toilet.

It’s more like $16.8 million. That’s the start. They will negotiate down for upfront payment and not firing him for cause.

Why did LSU give Orgeron such a big buy out? It’s not like he was a threat to leave or any other school could have pulled him away from LSU. I don’t get that. He deserved a raise after the NC but the buy out makes no scene

It isn’t a given, and probably unlikely, that Aranda would have made the same moves O did.

O has done a lot of things wrong but he did put that 2019 season together by getting Burrow and Brady.

Do the math on half empty stadium for remaining three home games and you get several million in loss revenue from concessions alone fricktwat

Was thinking the same thing. Not like he was a flight risk...

Two seasons without fans in the stands maybe a couple more seasons if LSU’s new hire can’t right the ship quickly and loses too much ground recruiting.

I'm really not sure which of these things I'd rather see more.

- O be fired today.

- You never making another thread.

I don’t know what would I enjoy abusing more, your mind or your body.

Worth every penny, and the right hire can have us back at that level in 2-3 years with great recruiting and the portal.

So that would be 5 to 6 years wasted at LSU. Some of us LSU don’t have years to waste.

BECAUSE THAT IS HOW CONTRACTS WORK ESPECIALLY AFTER 2019.
They knew they would never pay that much. In fact, what I love are those that keep saying they knew about stuff and should have done something, blah blah blah. Maybe, just maybe, the AD has been in communication with the NCAA on some of these issues and as part of his annual performance review in 2020, there were conversations and communications, some of which he may have even signed, where he understood the consequences.

Because Woodward is playing chess while you drooling over tiddlywinks. Any coach who wins a title gets a raise, and it’s going to be a top 5 raise. A coach who wins a title is going to get some security in their contract.

Why is any of this important? Woodward has made it clear in all of his hires, here and in the past, that he will pay premium salaries for top level coaching. O isn’t a top-level coach by any measure, yet he won a title with a perfect season. Any coach who looks at LSU with their agent in the future isn’t going to be thinking- damn, they were a little cheap on O’s contract after he won a title. They didn’t give him much security after a perfect season. No, they will be thinking, if I take the LSU job, I’m going to be taken care of. I’ll have security if I win and I’ll get something if it doesn’t work out. Top candidates will demand this to consider coming here.

You guys are making this out to be a big thing when it really isn’t in the grand scheme of the athletic department. We have the money and Woodward is going to spend it. The next guy will know going in that the contract won’t be an issue. If they win, we will make back that $20 million a few times over with interest. Small thinking over buyouts and contracts makes for small football programs with impenetrable ceilings.

Geez! The contract is 25 pages!! This should be the preface: "You are the Head Football Coach at LSU. Your success means way too much to so many people. Every little boy in Louisiana has dreamt of playing football for LSU. When they get too old and fat or graduate from college, they dream of having your job. Win and keep us off probation and you will have your job forever and will be paid stupidly well for your efforts. If you stop winning, we are going to fire you. The next 24 and 7/8 pages are for the lawyers."
