The gm qualities like talent evaluation absolutely translate to college football when it comes to recruiting.

Nick Saban says hello. Great talent evaluator for the Dolphins! Man, Nick wishes he had half Bill O’Brian’s success in the NFL. Feel free to hate on BOB, but come up with a better reason.

Everybody not named Fickell. Do not let him leave town without a signature.

That’s basically Saban in 1999. Played Kent State. DB coach at Kent State and Ohio State, then some other places up north. Then Toledo HC, Browns DC, then Michigan St HC, then LSU HC b

Saban didn't hold the gm title. He didn't pick his players. BOB did. I can't see how you couldn't look at BOB destroy that texans roster and not fear he'd do the same to lsu

Kiffin. He’s a better coach than O, but he’s just as much of a clown and just as much of a PR disaster. He will crash and burn just like O. Maybe not as fast but it’s inevitable.

Don’t want another “entertaining” coach or another “character”. Want someone who is all business and focused on building AND SUSTAINING a championship level program.

I agree with pirate King. Fickell is the man for the job. Don't tell me he's a Midwest guy. Jay Johnson was a west coast guy and woody hired him.

Please. Nick picked his GM. That’s like saying Belichick doesn’t pick his players because he doesn’t have GM title. Or Pete Carroll. Or Andy Reid. Or a ton of other coaches who have a GM to handle the drudgery, but pick their own players.

It would have to be Kiffin. He has had many opportunities and he fails constantly.

arizona athletics is in muddy waters. I think Johnson wanted to off that ship.

If Cincinnati gives him a raise close to what we can pay him. I doubt he leaves

So you don't agree that kirby and jimbo haven't benefitted from Georgia and Florida states talent advantage?

I can see what youre saying. Some people are just better in college than the NFL. Problem is we don't have a huge sample size of BOB as a college coach, and as I said, people make a fuss that it's hard to transition from college to NFL, but its hard the other way too

Failed as OC at USC before he could legally drink? Nope.
Failed at the Raiders? Debatable. Al Davis famously forced Jamarcus Russell on him.
Failed at Tennessee? Nope, they were pissed when he bailed.
Failed at USC? Debatable. Had success until crippling Reggie Bush sanctions kicked in.
Failed as OC at Bama? Nope.
Failed as HC at FAU? Nope.
Failing as HC at Ole Miss? Nope.

This is all absolutely true.

I just wouldn’t disqualify BOB because of how things ended with the Texans, things got weird there with the owner and that guru he brought in as team president. O’Brian has had enough success at both levels to let me HOPE he could be a Pete Carroll or Saban type who can thrive in college after NFL failure brought on by talent issues. I just wish we knew if he could recruit. That being said, if Les Miles could sign top 5 classes at LSU, maybe anyone can.
