Look, I was shocked about it too. I had on a typical day's outfit a couple Fridays ago, which is what even started the conversation on Friday dress in the first place. I think I will probably at least start wearing pants since shorts did seem a bit too casual for the workplace, but I mean, if the expectation from the boss is that casual, I just thought I'd rather be comfortable while I work.

Oh boy, I had a collared shirt but I was pretty much wearing khaki shorts, sandals, and sunglasses when I was going into the office. Now, I am the only person on my floor going in so unless someone stops me on the elevator, I felt fine

Completely depends on the employer. My office dress is pretty damn casual as well. We don't go as far as to allow gym shorts and sandals but t-shirts and jeans (without holes) or khakis are just fine.
The only time that changes is when we know a client is coming in.
