Looking for opinions from those who may have visited or lived there. Best areas to check out, best restaurants, things to do, places to see etc.

Bernardus in the Carmel Valley is nice. Spanish Bay for the bagpipes at Sunset.

Only if sunset....if not then do lunch.
I would do sunset at Carmel or somewhere in Big Sur though vs one at Pebble.
Stick to the area though....lots to do/see in Big Sur. Carmel-by-the-sea. Monterey is fun, but Big Sur and Carmel really is where the awesome stuff is. Definitely do 17 mile ride. It doesn't take long, and perfect way to see the peninsula. We didn't go north of monterey, but I'm sure there is some fun stuff to do that way.
I know people will chime in...so I'll let them roll with it, but we went last February and it was amazing.
When are you traveling?

Went in February.... what's yall plans? Going into Big Sur etc? Are you into Golf?
One of my fave parts of the trip we took along the PCH was our stay in Monterrey. It's a little more pricier to stay in Carmel, but both were great and we found a spot on Monterrey we stayed 2 nights at that had a huge room/fireplace/kitchen. Was great!
If you are into golf and won't be playing Pebble, I'd advise you to make a resi at "The Bench"....you get to watch the golfers finish up on 18 and have a postcard view for lunch. It's great! The drinks/food/atmosphere is perfect. Buddy of mine went for dinner and told me his biggest mistake was not going for lunch. That it was...We spent about 2 hours just relaxing. Great food/drinks. It's a simple lunch. If we didn't have a beach picnic "surprise" setup for my wife in Carmel we would have stayed longer.
Advise to do 17 mile ride in the AM, then lunch around 11:00-11:30am, pretty ideal then you'll have the rest of the afternoon etc for prob wondering Carmel then finishing up with the sunset on the beach.

Yes, no doubt.
I mean if you are an OT Baller go ahead and drop the $500 to play Pebble then wrap it up with lunch at "The Bench", but simply you can just relax and soak it all in.

These are not my pictures but can give you an idea..we sat at these exact setup, we went the week after the pebble beach tournament...it was lunch so the firepits were covered and acted as our tables.
RECS:
Get a Bread Balloon for an appetizer. It's a great experience and delish.

The cocktail I got was: BENCH WARMER
Milagro reposado, chipotle sour, chili ancho liqueur, lime juice.
Dessert: It was our anniversary so they got us..
WOOD- ROASTED STRAWBERRIES
Butter-crumble topping, balsamic glaze & cheesecake ice cream

We ate lunch at the Artichoke restaurant which is great of you like artichokes and and garlic. All in all that is one of the most gorgeous non mountainous regions of the country, its just so nice.
Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Definitely go explore Carmel-by the sea.
One of my favorite things I did was rent a bike in Monterey and ride down the coast all the way to Spanish Bay and back, Ate lunch in downtown Pacific Grove on that route. If you can rent an Electric Bike I would recommend that, Pacific Grove is quite hilly.
Go explore the beach in Carmel, you can walk down to Pebble Beach.

Drive down Hwy 1 to Hearst Castle in San Simeon.

Phil's in Moss Landing has very good seafood, beach access and reasonable prices. Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville is fun for the family. It is a U-Pick farm. They'll have apples and berries depending on the time of year. They have absolutely great pies, sandwiches and cider made on site and a picnic area to enjoy. They're off the beaten path and a little north of Monterey but both are worth the drive.

It’s closed. Big Sur is worth the drive from Monterrey
