Why would they defend it? That's exactly what they want.
Better yet, just get them to admit that's what they want.
The situation in Australia is precisely the goal for America, and the rest of the world for that matter. The people pulling the strings at the highest levels (not at the Prime Minister of a nation level) are Psychopaths. They will keep trying to reach that goal until they get it - or they're stopped. Those people do not take no for an answer, and there's no gray area.

Next time they point to gun control, I will point out that gun violence doesn’t count as gun violence until 2 weeks after you get your second shot.
