these unusual calls are what make the college game more fun to watch than the pros. There are also two other factors. 1. when the forward pass was first becoming popular, most coaches thought you were crazy to use it.(same with West Coast etc.) Stats will bear out that going for it on 4th down is a good thing to do.(law of averages, stats etc.) Miles is just one of the first to see this. and 2. Miles confidence in his players to pull this stuff off, actually gets them so jacked up, it increases the chance for success. So his decision becomes part of the outcome. It is not luck.

This is true

I think it is just because of how he comes off sometimes

People think he is on over his head

If Coach Saban had called that, he would be a genius

Bottome line is, it was Gary Crowton that made the call LSU has one of the top 5 BEST OC in the country... I think this is pretty widely felt amongst avid CFB fans.

so props to Miles letting his coaches coach

If I'm not mistaken, Meyer calls the plays, while Crowton does it for LSU.

I think that is what you Pay and OC 600k a year to do, make the calls!

Crowton > Urban Cryer, trust me on that

Meyer has Tim Tebow..a player that comes along every 10 years or so...we will shall see how MR. Meyer does post Tebow

He is a recruting machine, but it's Florida! How hard is that? Not very hard...He has a great advantage...Meyer is a great coach, I just don't like him

If you want to win the game you had to throw it. Yup miles is genuis because he played to win and not to lose. Gee by taking a chance he now has a cofindent young qb that can throw the ball. Run the ball up the middle and we lose because AU would stop it. Pass opened up the run if Tommy Tubberville said that.

hate his play calling (they are just not high percentage plays) but I am nore of a 3yds and a cloud of dust kind of guy.

If you go back and really think about the play calling in the UF and AU game last year, they were not as gutsy as you might think.

The 4th downs were running plays on manageable 4 and 1 situations, and the game was on the line, LSU was behind!

The AU TD pass with 1 second left, well, we still had time to kick the FG didn't we...clock stops on incomplete pass

We broke the huddle with 23 seconds left... the players took a little too long...and suddenly Miles is a gambler for taking a shot in the end zone... People need to lay off Miles

He has teams ready to play big games, 6-0 against top 10, and he takes care of the cupcakes, and is recruiting very well..He very well may haul in LSU's best class ever this year! HOw about that?

SEC fans just assumed LSU would return to middle of the road, post Saban...

urban's play calling has been EXTREMELY overrated since he got to UF. his first year they struggled to score, LSU handed them either 4 or 5 turnovers and they couldn't do anything with it. his second year they won the NC with their defense, their offense looked pedestrian most of the year. last year they could put up points at times but relied way too heavily on tebow's running. this year they've looked stagnant on offense against their only two real opponents and meyer is still showing his same flaws. he doesn't utilize RB's and is still showing an over-reliance on tebow and harvin. crowton is FAR superior to him as a play caller IMO. it's really not even close. meyer's offense:

Seriously, why do people ALWAYS try to nitpick and put Miles coaching decisions under a microscope compared to every coach in the NCAA?

All coaches go thru that in their own environment.
It's part of the job....and it is good thing.
It means that the "fans" ARE following.
Worry if you hear nothing.

Not much guesswork involved in that statement.

Lucky Les,

So we kick a field goal and leave Auburn with 3 timeouts with only a 2 point lead? You are an idiot!!! We play to win....

Once again Miles shows a larger than life set of nuts, when he really didnt need to. Run the ball, force Auburn to burn their to's, kick the field goal with time running out.

Instead, like you said, an inexperienced QB makes a tough throw, gives Auburn the ball back with 1:03 and 3 timeouts. Thank goodness for the sack.

They were stacking the box so the play call makes sense. That being said, I think I would have run it. Thats why Lesticles is rich as a major HC and I am a just a veterinary podiatrist specializing in camels.

Miles is holding far better hole cards than 72. Realize that.

It doesn't. Throwing it on 1st down there is beyond retarded. I just don't understand how this guy can make bad decisions and continually defy the odds. I have a degree in finance and I understand statistics on a basic level at least, this shite is supposed to even out eventually.

Since you have a basic level understanding of statistics, then you can understand why the choice.

Odds favored LSU running the ball up the middle on 1st down, ESPECIALLY on the road in the SEC when you only need a field goal to win with just a minute left. Secondary knows this. Everyone is thinking stop the run.

LSU football is having a QB make a good decision and get the ball to the play makers.

Team those two together and the the choice to throw on first down is an good decision.

LSU did not go for the TD. It did a reasonably safe pass play and got the football to the talent. Then the talent made the effort to score.

Do you realize what a huge shot in the arm this gave the entire LSU team for the rest of the season, especially a QB who made a HUGE error in judgement in the first half?

Statistically, it was a pretty dang good decision.

Have a Great Day.
