Working as a Movie Extra- mistake?

I am working as an extra on a night scene tonight. I have never done it before. The scene is being filmed a few blocks from my house so I said why not. The scene will have a decently famous actor as well. With that being said, am I in for a miserable night? Anyone have any experience doing extra work?

I mean it's one night of your life, and will easily give you something to talk about for a while.

Rumble Through The Dark with Aaron Eckhart. Based on the novel "The Fighter" by Michael Farris Smith.

Very true. I'm looking forward to it but am not going in thinking it will be the most fun night ever.

Do you know if it is a large group scene or small? If it is small, (main actors and a few extras) it will be really cool to see how everything is done behind the scenes. If you are one of 50+ extras then be prepared to be treated like cattle. They will take you to and from the holding tent every time they need to change the direction of the shoot.

I second what BlacknGold said. It's a lot of sitting around, but I enjoyed getting a look at how movies are actually made. I brought a book with me because it was still the pre-smartphone era.

The scene is a back woods cage fight setting and I'll be a spectator. I'm in an email with 28 others so who knows how many it will actually be.

Did it one time. It was a great experience! Lucked out shooting in a furniture store. Got to sit in brand new recliners all day!! I got paid $125 and $25 for my truck to sit in the parking lot. Scene that I was in took about 45 minutes to shoot. Turned out neither myself nor my truck made it to the movie. I can scratch off my bucket list though!!

I had a blast when I was an extra. Got to be a scene with Dustin Hoffman. You really get to appreciate what the actors put into it to get a good scene. But…
For about 30 seconds of screen time if you’re lucky.

Been there and done that in Shreveport. It’s very boring after the first hour. You will stand around a lot. Oh and forget about talking to whatever “star” is there…

Wasn't a extra, but had the shop area outside my office filming. Sly Stallone fight movie. Sly was sitting in a director chair outsidethe shop door that had a window. I could see him through my office door.
Anyway I was on the phone with a sub contractor clarifying his job on a spec. When I looked up from my computer screen and made eye contact with Sly. He turned angry and pointed at me. Then a little ugly chick came in the hall and said if she could close my door cause I was breaking Sly concentration. Sure I said and closed the door. 20 minutes later I finished my call and got up to go piss. When I got back to the office I forgot to close my door. A security guy then came into my office saying I was becoming problem, and had to remain in my office with the door close or leave. I told him to get the frick out of my office. The crew put some butcher paper over the shop door window. LOL.
