I said this to a co-worker earlier this week. We laughed, but if you’re looking for the best head coach you make Nick say no several times. He probably does, but don’t run away based on probably. You miss every shot you don’t take.

Woodward will call. There’s no doubt in my mind. Saban, of course, won’t leave Bama for LSU.

Pipe dream. He has regret in hindsight, but he's entrenched with Alabama, and I think he will be for the rest of his career.
Better to go for a younger up-and-comer like Billy Napier or Philip Montgomery. Most are probably unfamiliar with Montgomery, but I think it would be a good fit as long as he's got a good DC. He has Texas ties for recruiting, and experience with highly explosive Offenses and QB specialization. LSU needs someone who can improve recruiting and development at QB and OL. Louisiana is always going to have talent at the skill positions.

[quote]Nick has come home to retire[/quote

What makes it home? The 5 years he spent in Baton Rouge vs the 14 he's been in Alabama?

What's the incentive for him to leave Alabama? Money? Alabama will match whatever LSU can offer him.

The guy has built a machine at Alabama and at least within the big picture is approaching retirement. He can likely coast to his 10th national championship at some point.

Saban luvs a challenge. Think how much the Gumps would cry if Woodward could somehow get Saban to agree to come back. Think of all our Louisiana boys staying home and then also getting the best recruits in the entire country. It would be so beautiful, Gumps crying and reverting back to the pre-Saban teams we were regularly destroying!

Woodward doesn't have $150-200m chief.

Just pretend Alabama is LSU, he will hire Ed. Ed will bring the young internal DL guys (Roy, Gulliory, and Smith) with him plus Ricks. The offense has no real value to Bama minus Boutte.

Ed will be recruiting especially Louisiana i.e Campbell, Howard, and maybe Citizen.

So... it will be like Alabama is the new LSU, as they will have Louisiana recruits and the ole LSU coach.

You guys still haven't figured out how Saban works?

You really are crazy, Saban’s way to smart to hire a DL coach like O. He can do better!

He doesn't care about that. Recruiting La. and Ms., and current players.... most of the LSU players don't have value over at Bama. The young internal DL are going to be monsters.

Lil Nick is actually known for hiring prior flunkies.

Saban plays chess, Woodward pays Frogger.

That's going to be a necessity with any hire unless it's a Defense specialist.
Are you saying you want a D specialist? Do you have someone specific in mind?

???
Who do you have in mind that won't need a good DC?
If you think that's a reference to the "CEO" model, it's not. Montgomery has more of a history as an O and QB specialist.
LSU is a unique program in many ways. What I'm saying is that he would fit based on the areas that are not inherent strengths -- QB and OL recruiting and development. The inherent program strengths are going to be there regardless of who the coach is. Texas is a fertile area to go to for QBs and O-linemen, positions where Louisiana and LSU often lag. He'd have an O system that would get the ball to playmakers, which is always a strength for LSU.
