Are all homeowner's insurance policies as outrageous as State Farm? My deductible is $14,000 and some change. I was curious if this is the case for all companies or is it just a State Farm thing?

Hurricane deductible is 2%, 5% or 10%

And how is it outrageous? Not like they didn't tell you that's what it would be. You made a choice to have higher deductible for lower premiums.

You gambled...you lost. Actually might not have. How long have you been there snd how much lower was premium? But even if you did lose, you made a choice to gamble.

Yes, all carriers have high deductibles for named storms. Either 2 or 3% of the insured value. Some carriers even higher

Not true. I have a straight dollar deductible for hurricanes; $1000

You gotta read your policies. None of it is a super secret trick. You can negotiate all of it - it will affect your premiums. Don't like the result - shop around.

State farm is expensive, and like to jack shite up, because they can.

They have been fined 2 times by feds for f'in their customers over. How they continue to have the numbers of customers is beyond me.

I appreciate the douchey/aggressive approach to answering a simple question.

There is a zero chance you have a $1000 hurricane deductible in the state of LA.

With some companies you can have flat deductibles, no matter the loss cause, if you’re willing to pay the premium.

I think I will. I've been with them for 16 years and have never filed a claim on homeowner's policy. I'm not insinuating that they pulled a fast one on me. I know I didn't read the fine print. I admit that being my fault. I'm just curious if all companies do that before I waste one second doing some shopping next year.

Is it a policy that has been in force for a long time? That may be the case, because I'm fairly certain the state mandated min deductibles of 2% about 10 yrs ago or so

I have a $1000 deductible as well.

I dropped State Farm years ago because of the price/policy coverage.
