FWIW, I got Covid in Sept 2020 and got the antibody test monday. Test came back negative.

Unsurprising, our bodies are designed to be efficient. That means it's not going to produce antibodies for every infection you've ever encountered in your life (lots of wasted resources since the vast majority of the time you're not fighting all of those infections.) If it's recent you'll see some antibodies, but much past recent infections you won't see anything.

That doesn't mean you can't fight it off, though. Your immune system can recognize and remember, and will start producing the proper antibodies once it detects an infection it remembers. Hopefully, the new infection is just like the old one, or close enough, for your body to mount another good defense.

But keep in mind, the vax was probably designed for an older strand, similar to the one you already encountered. I can't imagine it adds any significant advantage for your immune system assuming you've already had it.

Also, bear in mind, there are false positives and negatives for Covid tests. A positive test generally means you had it, but not always.

The antibody test is cheaper and a positive means there is no point in the T cell test, which is pricey.

The question is, while a negative won't rule out exposure, it does increase the odds I haven't been exposed and makes it harder to spend $200 for the T test.
