I agree with many of you that it’s a failure of the CDC and public health officials in general that the nuance of previous infection has not been considered in mandates and vaccinate recommendations. As a physician who has had Covid, reviewed the data, and take care of covid patients daily this is what I have personally done and recommended to my family and friends:

If you’ve had Covid it’s completely reasonable to not get the vaccine for 8 months to a year. After that, you could get at least one shot. You can make an argument to not get a second and NO ONE who knows the data should fault your for it. Having COVID is like getting the first shot. Getting a shot after is like getting booster. Those who have had COVID and then had at least one shot are likely the best protected people out there.

This is what I read on a few preprint studies as well as some of the data out of Israel. Not sure why the CDC won’t convey this to the public. After my sister had Covid, her doctor said that natural immunity + full vaccination is the gold standard and you can’t do better than that. Any truth to that?

This. And if you do get the second shot, you may well be better off to wait several months to do so versus the normal 21-28 day interval. That's true for folks getting vaxxed and never having been infected, too.
