I’m not great, but I have been breaking 50 (on 9 consistently) and finally broke 90 two weeks ago.
Game just rules. Never been paired with someone I didn’t end up being buddies with in the end. Just a grand game.
That’s all.

You sound like you'd be fun to play with.

The simplest advice I've ever been given: just laugh.
We're not good enough to get mad over an errant shot. It can be challenging at times because you know you're capable of hitting that shot. But consistency is what separates us all

Keep it up!
It should be fun.
We are paying for this activity.
No reason to be angry or sulk for 4 hours(hopefully less)

Spending 4 hours with your buddies, busting balls and hitting that one shot that you think needs to be on TV.
19th hole, having beers and wings, telling tale tales...
There's nothing better.

Couldn't agree more. The game will infuriate you for 17 holes, but one hole you will have the perfect string of shots, and that'll be enough to have you counting the days to the next round.

It's refreshing to read your post, and I agree with the other posters. Just keep it fun and laugh. I used to play with a great foursome (people not golfers). We had one steadfast rule, you could only laugh out loud once! We broke the rule everytime we played.

Talk about a pet peeve on a golf course. I play with guys that are in the 80s mostly. They often get mad at every bad shot and missed putt like that's just a given shot for them. I understand the frustration, but it crosses a line when it's tense and awkward in the golf cart. I don't enjoy the round as much when that's going on and I enjoy playing golf. Usually when you tell them to quit getting so pissy they'll straighten up.
I had a spurt where I started down that path, but decided to not get mad on the golf course ever again. We're not good enough and we're not paying our bills with golf. If I'm not playing well, it's on me. Own the bad shot, and move to the next shot.
I've made a lot of friends on the golf course though. I have played with some real doozies also though. One guy walked up one time on the first tee box and asked if he could play the round with us. His shirt was half tucked in, he had dip all over his mouth, and his zipper was undone and wide open. . . The round only got more hilarious from there.

Try doing that monthly with a group of guys who have been playing for 20-30 years and still struggle with breaking 100. I'm 33 so I just sit back and laugh. I've never had a formal lesson but know I'm capable of shooting 80 on the number like I did last year (PB).
What's even more hilarious, to me, is that our golf league won't allow a double par and pick it up. It's how ever many strokes it takes to get it in the cup, that's being written down for your score.
We have a new guy in the group this year that I've been trying to play more with. Our first tournament in July we were paired together and he shot 85. In our August tournament he shot even par 72. When I can, I try and play with golfers better than me because it helps me stay focused

Not only is it great, getting 4 hours of sun is awesome to help fight off corona
That’s why I have been petitioning the government to subsidize golf or make it free... ya know for the health benefits

So you’re saying I shouldn’t have thrown my putter into that lake when I missed a routine 15 foot putt to break 100?

I played really awful today.
It is not the end of the world.
I’ll try again tomorrow.
I got some new glasses with progressive lenses instead of a line bifocal.
I switched to my sunglasses for the back, mostly out of shame, but played a little better.
Golf is hard.

Even progressive lenses are hard to play golf with, since the ball is blurry looking through the bottom of the lenses, and the last thing you want to do is to tuck your chin down to see the ball. I recommend using distance-only glasses. It’s hard to see the scorecard to write your score down, but I always seem to end up with a lower score when I don’t write it down ; )
