Horrible take.

Explain to me how the Government giving out unemployment benefits is a free market?

These aren't mutually exclusive. Acting like a bunch of business owners don't go Karen all over Facebook instead of doing what they need to do to save their business is dishonest.

And plenty of them do as well.

Hold up, you’re telling me the government choosing which businesses are “essential” during a pandemic and forcibly shutting down small businesses while the large corporations saw record profits isn’t capitalism?

A well functioning market determines price points with buyers and sellers who are not under duress. It is part of the definition of fair market value.

A labor market where people's basic needs are met prior to seeking work would meet that that definition.

This would give a far more accurate indication of the real value of labor where there is no economic duress present on any party involved.

quote:

Fair market value is defined in Treasury Regulation §1.170A-1(c)(2) as, "The price at which property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or to sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts."

By definition, if you are under some sort of economic compulsion forcing you to sell your labor for less than you would otherwise be willing to do so, then it cannot be a fair market price point for that hour of labor.

As long as the rules are the same for everyone it is technically still operating with the same principles. It should cause inflation but still.

and suspending evictions. It is going to be a real shitshow once people have to pony up 18 months of back rent.
