Louisiana COVID rules regarding athletics - Updated clown world stuff

I know; another COVID thread. I need to see if I’m taking crazy pills or if this actually makes sense. I was notified Monday that my son was in close contact with another student who tested positive for COVID. He can return to class on the 24th. No big deal. However, he cannot return to football until the 30th. 10 day and 14 day quarantine, respectively.
I was told that because football is a close contact support, and mask wearing and distancing cannot be maintained, is the reason for the longer quarantine.
1. Why the longer quarantine if he is still has a possibility of contracting after 10 days? Why would going to class have less of a restriction (regardless of mask status)?
2. They go to recess with a bagillion other kids and never wear a mask. Isn’t this the same as a football game?
TLDR version: nobody knows what the frick they are doing and the rules are retarded and make zero sense.
Update: I called the school asking if they had documented proof of the student testing positive. I was told they cannot ask for proof, as the state says that is not allowed. They have to assume it’s legit. So they make everyone jump through hoops for shite when they don’t even know if it a valid positive. WTF!!

The key to all of this is for people to stop testing kids who have runny noses.

Exactly what’s taken place for over a year now

I agree. The shitty thing is the team has a jamboree next Thursday that he cannot attend. He can’t take team pictures, ride the bus to the game (while wearing a mask) or take team pictures. He is essentially cut off for two weeks.

did your son test positive for COVID?
this “coming into close contact with someone who tested positive” is bullshite.

I believe that is the LHSAA protocol for someone who is not vaccinated.
For someone that is vaccinated, they do not have to quarantine unless they test positive themselves or become symptomatic.
Whether people like it or not, those are the rules.
Also, if a team can't play a game because they have too many players in quarantine, it doesn't get rescheduled. It is a forfeit.

I don’t know. I’m not going to get him tested. I’m pretty sure he had it in late March because he showed symptoms. Never got him tested then. I had it and my daughter had it.

This is silly on so many levels. bullshite. Kids just need to stop getting tested, period. If they get sick, stay home and away from grandma. But definitely don’t go on the record.

Go read that again buckaroo. The LHSAA states the if a player is in close contact during completion or practice, he must quarantine the 14 days. If the contact occurs in a classroom, then the 10 days can apply. It’s the LDH that puts the stupid ability to distance or mask mandate.
Edit: it is true about being vaccinated. Fully vaccinated cancels contact tracing. First point remains valid however.

I see better COVID rules on the LSU Quad.

This is why the mask mandate is pointless. If a student, after 10 days of quarantine has the ability to still show symptoms, why allow him back at school, even with a mask? Wouldn’t you want the full incubation period to expire? That or just cancel everything in the fricking world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told by a high school athletic director just this week that if a player is fully vaccinated, even if he has a close contact to someone with COVID (at a game/practice or in the classroom), they are not required to quarantine at all- unless they also become symptomatic or test positive.

See my edit. That is true. Which, again is nonsense, since we know you can be vaccinated, asymptomatic and still transmit the virus. Clown world.

It’s absolute bullshite that whole classes are sent home for weeks because some stupid soccer mom is scared her kids has a fever. Just keep little Braxton home for a few days.

It IS FULLY KNOWN THAT COVID IS NOT SPREAD OUTDOORS...
the people making decisions on sports are completely unable to use rational, science based thought and our kids are paying the price for their utter incompetence.

Yep. Or 7 with a negative pcr test after 5 days of contact.

While I agree that these rules are overkill, the fact is, for the season at least, any player that is not vaccinated has a very good chance of being forced to miss extended time because of COVID exposure. This could happen more than once too.
I think the rules are ridiculous, but that's just the way it is right now.
It will be interesting to see what these coaches and schools do when they have to forfeit a game because they have too many unvaccinated kids get exposed and they are forced to quarantine making them unable to field a team. Depending on the timing they may be forced to forfeit two games.
I think the pressure for these players to get vaccinated is going to get turned up big time when this starts happening.
