Understandably, it won't get the publicity of others, but the play made by CEH on 3 down vs. Alabama in 2019 may have been one of the biggest plays in the history of LSU football.
At the time it was made LSU's grasp on the game and the lead were clearly slipping. It was early in the 4th. Alabama had scored TDs on back to back possession where they methodically marched on LSU's defense, helpless to stop them. For their part, LSU had gone fumble, punt, punt in their second half drives to that point.
With LSU leading 33-27 and the defense being completely unable to stop Alabama, you felt LSU HAD to score on that possession. On a do or die 3rd and 10 CEH caught the ball well short of the first down marker, almost completely surrounded by defenders. He had no business getting that first down outside of just sheer will and desire. He got it and we know the rest of the story.
But if he doesn't get it LSU very well may have lost that game. If they lose the game, they don't reach the SECCG. If they don't reach the SECCG they likely don't make the playoffs. And if they don't make the playoffs the legend of Burrow and the 2019 season probably fades into "what if" memory like the great 2011 season.
IMO, 3rd and 17 vs. Texas wasn't as big as that play because even if LSU lost to Texas they could still win the SEC and make the playoffs. They could not have won the SEC if they lost to Alabama.
The moment, the historical significance, coupled with the unbelievable effort of the smallest guy on the field to make THAT play will always be one of the greatest single plays in LSU history for me.

With the same logic, the TD pass to Clyde after the interception and right before Halftime was Huge. Hard to call a first half play one of the greatest, but given the situation that was extremely clutch and had me beating a wall in excitement.
Pass to Byrd was more relief but also game-winning and remarkable.

That was a great one, and there are a whole lot more like that - the fourth down conversions against Tebow’s Gators, for example.
But when you rank the plays according to these three variables it becomes obvious which play stands alone:
1. The improbability of the play itself; I refer to the down and distance. The Bluegrass Miracle would be a 10 out of 10, but the Earthquake play is about a 3 out of 10.
2. The National Championship implications. Third and 17 against Texas, and Clyde’s fingertip catch and run against Bama, are maybe 8’s, while the Bluegrass Miracle is a 1.
3. The athleticism or elegance displayed to make the play. Jarvis Landry’s two game winning catches against Arkansas are 10’s; The over the shoulder fake FG against Spurrier’s USC was about an 8, just because it was so cool.
Cannon’s run ranks as a 9 on improbability, a 10 on National Title Implications (maybe a 9 if you want to reserve 10 for a play that actually decides the title), and a 10 on sheer athleticism. I can’t think of another play that would rank with that.
