Ed O said the protections sucked, but he didn't say if it was the offensive line's fault or the QB's fault. Nonetheless, typically the defensive line is ahead of the offensive line at this point.

Nonetheless, prior to the scrimmage today, 247, Ed O, and several insiders who had been watching practices said it appeared that overall the OL was better than last year. As they were all singing the praises of Brad Davis.

I think everyone needs to chill on the O line. Its a scrimmage and it’s difficult to project actual game results from it. I played OL in HS (save your downvotes) and practice and scrimmages were hard to translate to actual games. It seemed like that position group is the most difficult to project from practice. From what it looks like it was situational type stuff which can favor the defense. They get to play aggressively while the OL is trying to get it together. Shanahan is gonna be an anchor. Last year was an adjustment for him, but he got bigger and stronger while maintaining his Harvard brains. Big Ed is solid as is Deculus. So that leaves RG and LT. Wire showed flashes last year and with all this prep as the starter will surprise people. Hines or Bradford will be more than serviceable, just be patient and this line with Davis’ coaching will be solid.

Ed O did say that a bunch of the plays were third down situations. Hence, in third down situations, the defensive line consisted of primarily the best speed rushers. I mean, that's tough for any offensive line to protect against.

They can pump as much shine as they want but we have an issue at the tackle position and quality depth. It's embarassing we literally don't have quality back ups to put in at tackle as second string. Falls on O and recruiting.

No shite he was a terrible fricking hire and very few of us called that. Add it to the list of many hires Os made that have sucked "I will hire the best coaches"

"But he won us the Oline award in 2019"

Anyone watching that season would honestly admit burrow won that group the award.

Another thing people fail to mention is he would still be the coach if he didn't commit those penalties.

How was o not ready to fire him?

Protections are a two way street. As both the QB and the offensive line must coordinate together for it to work like it is supposed to. Nonetheless, at this early point in the season, why should anyone be surprised that the defensive line dominated? It doesn't mean anything other than as usual, the defensive line is ahead of the offensive line.

How do you know we have an issue at the tackle position? Did you watch the scrimmage today? Meanwhile, there is an article on 247 talking about the growing confidence in the offensive line. Very apparently, you spend all your time on this site vilifying Ed O, his coaching staff, and the offensive line, as opposed to reading and to listening to what the insiders who have watched the practices are saying, and they are saying that finally Brad Davis is developing good depth. A few of the names mentioned have been Charles Turner is looking good, Anthony Bradford is looking good, and Garrett Dellinger is also looking good. Hell, a few insiders are also saying flash, Kardell Thomas is even looking like he has improved. As they are saying he looks to be far more consistent with what he is doing. Indeed, your whole point is to blame Ed O and even though he finished in the top-five in national recruiting for the past three years in a row.

Moreover, there isn't anything wrong with this 2022 offensive line recruiting haul so for and LSU isn't even finished yet. Come on down Julian Armella.

Well the fact that you played High School football at least gives you one up on someone like Detiller who never played a down of football but likes to consider himself an expert at everything from technique to talent !

Being one year older doesn't always make a player better. If you are good, you should have been good last year. They weren't. They have a lot to prove, as does this Oline coach.

Dumervil in 2020, Dellinger in 2021, Campbell, Jones (so far) in 2022. We’ve been doing ok. It’s not as bad as some are making it sound.

Kimo Makaneole is a good player too. A lot of people obviously don’t know much about him.

We thought that last year until we discovered our dl was average and our oline was inept.

Meh. By the end of the season when the young guys started getting more reps, the DL was a strength. The problem was the LBs and Safefies were completely lost all of the time.

The OL may only be average at best, but this year’s DL is one of the best in the conference.

I’m glad they struggled at this point because it exposes our weaknesses.

Don’t want to figure this out once the season starts.
