Anyone have experience with this or know of a taxidermist who does?

For euro mounts, beetles are the real deal. A friend of mine in Texas does my skull mounts. They come out looking like this

My hunting buddy knows a guy with a beetle box. I’ll get his info when he comes out of the woods and post it. I think he’s in SW Mississippi

Can you get the beetles for a freshly killed democrat anti-2a congress person?
Ok, DV away; couldn't help myself.

I don't know of many taxidermists using beetles anymore. You have to keep them fed year-round, and the bone requires much more degreasing before you can whiten it (compared to simmering or heated/cold maceration). I still simmer them, but most people are going to maceration.

I skin it, simmer it with a little dawn soap for a few hrs, then pressure wash it. let it dry, tape antlers and I coat with 40% hydrogen peroxide. Set it out in sun to dry. Here’s a few I’ve done over the years

A buddy who I hunt with uses dermestid beetles in his taxidermy work. He has used them for years.
Here is a website, not his, showing how they work.

Fins to Feathers in Saint Amant have shipped several deer heads for me to a place with beetles. He does the prework, ships them and then mounts them to driftwood.

Look up Coleman Skull Mounts on Facebook, right outside of McComb. He did my daughters (no pics).
