There was a vaccine for smallpox by then. The smallpox vaccine was invented by 1800.

George Washington himself insisted on inoculating his troops, even when it was pretty novel. It was one reason we won the damned war. And you can bet your arse he didn't ask them or give them a choice. I guess now GW would be a freedom hating soi boi.

This...plus...

(1) Smallpox outbreaks (like all other virus' known to man ) was always in pockets, infecting a small group of people in close geographical proximity like a small village / neighborhood of a city etc. COVID spreads globally very fast and is effectively distributed uniformly across the world.

(2) There was always a vaccine available, so you could isolate the infected and vaccinate the neighborhood. In case of COVID, isolation and vaccination can only slow it down a little and help public health officials manage the crisis better.

There was no animal reservoir for smallpox, so the premise that Corona can be eradicated in a similar fashion is asinine and a testament to your very low IQ

Small pox was still being used as a biological weapon, until around the 1880s, so there were always small outbreaks happening in different areas. Sound familiar?
