Sitting in Panera and this came on.

Not enough adjectives to express my horror of this complete bastardization of a song.

It's not that bad. I kind of like Jason Mraz.

Yeah, this doesn't work for me either.

The main problem I have is that there is not a cohesive groove to the track. The band is playing a typical Mraz kind of beat (IIRC, based on the Steppers beat from Reggae), this has a shuffle feel to it. The guitar playing the arpeggios is playing straight. The guitar comping the chords IS playing with the drummer with a reggae feel, which is fighting the straight syncopated arpeggiated guitar line. For me the feel is off. It doesn't gel because the grooves are fighting each other. The guitar arpeggios should have been played with a shuffle feel. Maybe they thought varying that line that much (which really isn't a lot) would not sound enough like the original. I think I would have shuffled it all until the a capella vocal break.

I am also not a fan of what sounds to be a non-tempo synced analog delay (possibly BBD) on the keys and vocals. I know it has been a stylistic thing in reggae for a long time. It works in some older recordings as that's all they had but sounds odd in a modern recording. But that's a personal preference thing.

Haha! I get you.

Based on your thoughts in another thread I’d say they are morons with no taste at all.
But my thought remains that though I hate hate hate it, it’s still subjective.

I was prepared to like it since it is a laid back low energy song.
I’ve decided I must just hate him because I thought it was as bad as Muzak.
