I’m in New Orleans, I have twin 9yr olds. A bunch of kids in their grade have had covid in the last month. Worst case was a mild fever.

There’s a lot of RSV too.

Covid + RSV….yeah I can see them being overwhelmed.

Had 5 of 12 kids on our baseball team test positive just prior to the State Tournament. All but two played. Kids are kids, they bounce back pretty quickly.

The experience of the United Kingdom suggests delta is no more dangerous to young children than the original strain. The UK wave of delta cases did not result in a rash of deaths among young people who remain unvaccinated.
That said, US case numbers are much higher overall so far more US children, both in gross numbers and per capita, will get covid than did in the UK. Like the original strain Delta can hospitalize children. So its no surprise to me that our pediatric wards will be at capacity from this surge in cases.
Thankfully vaccinations numbers in Louisiana are improving.

They weren't at capacity before...why would they be at capacity this time?

The CDC has stated that vaccinations can longer be relied upon to prevent infection or transmission of the virus. How does the above help the children?

Go check out the Acadiana subreddit.. theyre clamoring to suspend in-person learning indefinitely until all adults are vaccinated
Even though the vaccine doesn't prevent infection or transmission, somehow having everyone vaccinated will save children

Call and ask. Say you have a child with an upcoming appointment and looking for information.
I called vandy last night as if I were a patient seeing which hospital would be better to go to. Of course I was trying to find out information, but played the role to get the info.

I'm not sure who "they" are but seems they may have missed a few classes themselves. If they wait for 100% adult vaccination then their kids will never go to school.

I read several news stories hyping up my states "overrun childrens wards", and upon digging and digging into the numbers to find out, out of our several million residents it was like 100 kids had been hospitalized, and none had died. Not that I know anything about the BR numbers, but that might give you an idea of the kinds of #s and patients they are talking about.

CDC warns about spike in RSV cases across South
Bet you didn't know Delaware was part of the South. I'm kidding.

"Each year in the United States, RSV leads to on average approximately 58,000 hospitalizations with 100-500 deaths among children younger than 5 years old
So...technically...worse stats than covid for kids.

Viruses don't thrive in the summer, I guess because of the vitamin D from more intense sunshine. So, why is covid thriving? Or is it?

Double hit. RSV is big now.

Rsv patients outnumber c19 by 3-4x. Icu and vent patients are all rsv.
