Boat Trailer Title

Purchased boat in Orange beach where they don't require boat owners to have titled trailers. Getting the boat title was no problem, and i have the bill of sale for boat/trailer combo. Trying to get the trailer titled in my name in Louisiana. Went to the DMV and they said I needed a previous trailer title, but as far as i know i will not be able to get one. Anyone dealt with this issue before?
Side note: the previous owner is non-responsive so i won't be able to get help there.

I think you have to get it inspected by the State Police. Someone else will know more.
Also, try the Outdoor Board.

there's your problem
Call LDWF or go to an ABC Title....they will help you sort it out
Basically what they will tell you is that you have to get the trailer inspected by the State Police.

When my dad passed I couldn’t find the title, and it wasn’t in the database. DMV issued new one as if it was the first time registered.

ABC title will tell you exactly what and how to do it, in a scary fast manner.

You have to apply for a homemade trailer title and get it inspected at a State Trooper division. Just don't go to troop L in Mandeville.
I needed it done a couple years ago and the dude who answered the phone was an absolute fricking a-hole. You hear me motherfuker? If you're reading this, you're a fricking a-hole.
I asked him a series of questions and with each question he got more and more pissy with me until he finally just hung up on me. Funny because the reason I was being so thorough is because I was scared they were going to claim it was stolen and keep it for themselves as I had heard of this happening before. Why would I think so low of the state troopers? Well just look how he handled me on the phone when I was asking about how to get my boat trailer inspected.

Yep, gonna need to inspect it by state boys. Then dmv. Bill of sale is all you need from original owner.
Save some headache and go to a private title company
