Whos our best you want to see on the roster next month? I bolded the starters I’d want to see, some of them I did based just on star power (i.e. Steffen over Turner), but this roster is young and proven after this summer. Such a contrast and much needed turnover from last cycle when we failed to qualify for WC. This team has a lot of staples through the 2026 World Cup in USA.

GK Turner
GK Steffen
GK Horvath
RB Dest
RB Cannon
CB Richards
CB Brooks
CB M. Robinson
CB McKenzie
LB A. Robinson
LB Yedlin
M Adams
M McKennie
M Acosta
M Pulisic
M Reyna
M Lletget
M Musah
F Konrad
F Weah
F Zardes
F Sargent
F Hoppe

Who else you got and who are they replacing?

Haven’t heard that name in a minute. If we’re taking 3 vets like in the Olympics then give me Clint and Donovan too.

Miles Robinson, Acosta, Hoppe, and Turner are the biggest "stock up" players from the GC for me... we may only need Acosta starting out of that group, but the others should definitely factor into WCQs next month.

The average age of the WCQ roster is going to be about 24/25 years.

This team, as good as we think it is right now, might actually be in their prime for the 2026 World Cup in the US in 2026. US Soccer is fun again.

Avg age of the players in OP is only 23. None of those guys even 30 yet.

Swap out Konrad for Dike and I would mostly agree with this. Dike is going to improve drastically over the course of WCQ

He was my guy from the GC squad through the group stage too, but thought it was maybe telling that he didn’t get called upon in the final.

He definitely didn't have a great Gold Cup, but you still have to like the potential he has shown.

As far as the final, Berhalter rightfully knew that this was going to be a frantic game maximum work rate kind of game from all 11 and the striker was going to look like a midfielder half the game with Mexico dominating possession. Zardes was the man for that kind of game over Dike. I don't think it says Berhalter's rating of Dike has necessarily fallen.

As I understand it 30 will be called in and the rosters changed for each game.

Acosta will get a few starts, but only if Adams is injured or when we have to give Adams a rest.

I think that's very likely, but have you seen that anywhere?

Speaking of, do we think Adams is ready? I haven't been following his recovery... the 9/5 and and 9/8 WCQ games against Canada and Honduras would definitely be games it would nice to have Adams @ 100%. We can roll out Acosta against El Salvador on 9/2 for sure.

He was good enough to play a little bit 2 months ago and started Leipzig's most recent friendly.

Pretty solid list. I would replace Yedlin with Vines at LB and start Musah over Acosta. I think Konrad will have his time sooner rather than later but Aaronson 100% needs to be on the roster. Maybe Zimmerman over McKenzie. And I hate to say it but Zardes is a good shout to start right now until Sargent shows he can be a consistent goal threat and good in the build up. Lastly I would probably start one of Turner/Horvath over Steffen at this point.

When was the last time you saw Sam Vines run at someone and beat them on the dribble?

I strongly disagree here.

I think Aaronson is the biggest omission from the OP’s list.

It’s not a like for like switch. Adams is a better D mid than Acosta and Musah is a better 8 than Acosta. Those two deserve to start over Acosta. I do agree though that Acosta is a better 6 than Musah.

Wait…
If you are including Musah who’s out 6-9 months, should include Aaron Long who’s out too.
