I believe trump said that in the beginning, they had no idea what they were dealing with and what was going on, and the consensus amongst experts was to lockdown. He said that the decision at that time (based on all the unknown) was the correct one.

There was never a reason to lock down anything. We had good data in the beginning of March 2020. Add to it, the transmission rate... the virus can barely be slowed even if you did 100% quarantines (lock downs are not quarantines)... we're talking nobody in, nobody out.
