I actually know more people than not that believe 12 years is FAR too long. There is a lot of sitting around doing nothing in schools nowadays (especially the younger ones). If you don't want an education then get out after 8 years, go tech for 1 year and work manual labor (I praise those that do).

the school system is a "one size fits all" approach.

even the socialist leaning countries in Europe put kids on an university or occupation trajectory at an early age....not everyone is college material

we should split schools on 3 or more trajectories:

1) remedial... just get them the basics and a vocational career path

2) college/higher education

3) practical training for a career that is above vocational, but doesnt require college.
