I’ve been out there and it’s 65F with low humidity. Summer is finally here.

After 3 straight mornings on the Fargo this week, I finally decided to do my overdue maintenance last night.
Clean and regressed BB, bled brakes, re-alighted hanger, and added a new chain. Going to push the chainring, cassette, and derailleur another 1-2k miles or until something fails.
Should be like butter this weekend. Considering going get my once a year Goodwater Loop around Lake Georgetown in before temps get above 100°.

Nice. What area of the country are you in, out of curiosity?
Alabama. So pretty much everything is pedal heavy unless we drive several hours north. He's 13 and hasn't hit his growth spurt yet. He's been sitting at 5' the last 18 months with the expectation that an extra ~3" and he could start fitting comfortably on a Medium sized bike and we would get him a new bike. He loved to ride the dirt jumps and the downhill lines but isn't motivated to put in the effort to get stronger and build his base cardio. He was a 60th percentile rider in NICA last season. Good enough to get him in the A group for 7th graders but usually in the back 1/4 of the A group. I try to get him to work on intensity but he doesn't like to push beyond threshold. Hoping training with the team will force him to push harder.

I was able to get a ride it yesterday evening. I did a intro to Zwift ride and it wasn't difficult. Not sure if that was due to it being an intro ride or if the FTP is too low. I guess I'll find out when I get into so more difficult rides.

Is he getting on Dirt Camp Racing?
We know them pretty well.

i think it's probably a bit too low. try one of the 30min workouts next and see how that feels. if still too easy try bumping it up to like 150w and try again.
that's going to require some trial and error though. i'd try another ftp test but do the ramp test. pacing that one isnt as important.

good to know
I was going to start on the FTP Builder series and then do another test in 6-8 weeks.

Good one to start on, but you need a good starting point. If your starting point is way too low you’re not going to be doing much good. Seriously, try the short ramp test and see what it tells you.
One question (dumb one but i’m going to ask anyway)…. You weren’t shifting during the ftp test you did were you?

I was in the initial warm up phase, where the wattage increases. During the actual 20 minutes test, I don't think I did but I wasn't aware that would cause an issue so I may have.

I think that may be part, or all of the problem. During the warm up phase ERG mode is on and you shouldn’t shift gears. However during the test part you can shift but if you tire yourself out and end up shifting to easier gears you’ve kinda blown the test. That’s what i meant about pacing.
Do a ramp test and do not shift gears. The trainer will adjust the resistance as the test goes on.

10-4...I try that this evening and see what the FTP comes to

Haha heard that, seems a bit more important…. Congrats!
Regional TT Champs were this morning so I can put the go fast bike up for a while. Didn’t go exactly as planned. Wasn’t a fast course with a pretty stiff headwind for the first 10mi and hot temps. Still finished with a 56:30 @ 26.1mph for the 40k and 2nd place, but not the 53-54min time i was shooting for

I was able to do the ramp test this morning but my FTP only went up to 110. I cracked at 170 watts and couldn’t keep up with the increases. My plan is to do the 6 week FTP builder workout and retest. Hopefully I’ll get a decent bump and can start doing some racing.

roll with it...
it will come up quick once you start doing some structured workouts.

Would some clip on pedals and shoes help? I’m just riding in my normal tennis shoes right now.
