Simmons was never an LSU student athlete......

He played on the basketball team until he was eligible for the NBA.

I am told he did not go to class, ever.

he didn’t even know how to refer to our school colors. In one of his exit statements, he referred to the “ gold and purple.”

What??!! I’m born and raised in West Monroe and never heard that before? Please elaborate you have my attention

Yep he was born in West Monroe. His family moved to the San Francisco area when he was 7. Dave Norris never would do a Bill Russell day. It needs to be.done and he needs to be given the key to the city. Maybe the new mayor will wake up to this?

Bill Russell was born on February 12, 1934 to Charles Russell and Katie Russell in West Monroe, Louisiana

I don’t claim Ben Simmons as an LSU player. F- that dude. Simmons ain’t that great of an NBA player. He can defend ok but he defers in big time moments. Can’t shoot free throws worth a shite.

only reason he came here is because his god father was on the coaching staff

Not sure why Shaq called him out when he was here for a year and clearly didn’t give a frick during his time, still doesn’t

nonsense. He was a great player, although a bit before my time. But I clearly remember him as the head coach of the Sixers when Dr J, Darryl Dawkins, etc were there back in the 70s.

A lot of great players existed before the millennials were born, you know.

Elvin Hayes is from Rayville.

Could you imagine Hayes and Maravich, two First Team All-Americans, on the same college team? That would have given the "Wizard of Westwood" something to concern about.

I think you’re looking at an old list.. make sure the top 50 includes current players. Cunningham won’t make the cut

I think you don't know what you are talking about. The NBA announced this list around 1996 for the 50 yr anniversary. Its the only one they have done and it is the one shaq is talking about. Of course a lot of players on that list would not be on it now, but it still is the list Shaq is talking about. I think a lot of people in this thread do not realize any of this based on the downvotes actually.

Eta: I do not remember Billy Cunningham either, but he was on the actual list in question. That is indisputable.

It would be foolish to list only 50 players when the league is 25 years older. These players were in different eras under different rules and fewer franchises to dilute talent. Instead of replacing some of the 50 from 1996 increase the list to Top 75.

Its also interesting to note that of the Top 50 Willis Reed (Bernice), Robert Parish( Shreveport), Karl Malone ( Summerfield), Bob Petit ( Baton Rouge) Elvin Hayes ( Rayville), Clyde Drexler ( Franklin) and Bill Russel ( Monroe) were all born in Louisiana, though only Petit played for LSU. In addition Shaq and the Pistol played for LSU giving Louisiana connection to 9 of the top 50 all time players on the 1996 list.

Lol. Its not a matter of foolish. The Nba has only done a list once. And its the one Shaq is talking about. No one cares about palm beach tigers all time top 50 list. Or any other list. Its the NBA top 50 of all time and they did it in 1996.

and everybody in the basketball world agrees. Hell, Simmons even passed up a DUNK tonight because he was scared of getting fouled and having to shoot FTs.

He’s a liability on the offensive end. His defenders play 15 feet off of him.

Moronic that Philly gave a monster contract to a guy with a massive flaw in his game, which isn’t improving. If anything, it’s getting worse.

If a guard can’t shoot, it’s more than a flaw. He can’t help you win.
He is a liability and when teams start playing for keeps he gets exposed. The lowly Hawks made him look really bad.
