I was watching highlights from LSU’s 1997 college World Series and every home run he hit and his swing was perfect.

He was fun to watch, however- he was juiced- the bat was juiced - and the ball was juiced.

Love me some Larson, but I'll take Walker's swing.

Larson hitting .381 with 40 bombs and 118 RBI is the most underrated and least talked about historic season in LSU sports history.

Felt like he hit a homerun every at bat. And absolute piss missiles.

That was the first year I watched LSU baseball from beginning to end and that was a hell of a year with the players we had. I had the sadz when bama beat us like 28-2 or something like that during the regular season but beating them in the championship game was pure enjoyment.

I used to feel bad for the baseballs he hit. He hit them that hard.
I thought it was vs stanford, but this was the shot that went over the scoreboard in Omaha. Epic crushness.

Fun fact, if you find those old Easton Reflex's -5 they are worth about $200.

You picked a great season to start following them

I was shooting up when I was watching him!!!

Great memory from that season. Right before the season started, I had a regular come into the bar that I was working at and told me he had just flown from Houston to BR with a young man who was coming here to play SS at LSU.
My friend told him, "Son, you have got big shoes to fill if you are going to replace Jason Williams". At that, Brandon Larson told my friend, "Sir, I'm going to make people forget who Jason Williams was". LOL, and he DELIVERED.
Absolutely true story!!!! Was unbelievable watching him play that season. He was injury riddled from the very beginning in the bigs. Always wondered what kind of career he could have had if he would have stayed healthy.

I was delivering pizzas listening to that game. We got our poo pushed in. Was hoping we could just add to our HR total late in the game b/c it was outta hand.
For the 97 CWS championship game, I was on a practice field at the University of New Mexico. Three of us were representing LSU Rugby at an all-star camp hoping to make the All-American team.
One of our coaches showed up late to training and yelled, "Hey you LSU boys. Y'all just won the College World Series. Congratulations."
Was so proud to wear the Purple & Gold(our LSU Rugby jerseys) that day.

Thanks for the link Byrdybyrd. Btw, I was at that series in Tuscaloosa. We got there needing to win just 1 game to win the regular season.
Doug Thompson, my all-time favorite LSU pitcher, started the first game and got rocked early. Skip went out to get him in the 2nd or 3rd inning and told him, "Son, I'm gonna need you to win it for us on Sunday." We lost that first game 6-4.
They blew us out 28-2 on Saturday, but sure enough, Skip brought Thompson in around the 5th or 6th inning on Sunday and he shut them down for a 6-4 victory and the regular season crown.
We played them 6 times that year splitting 3-3, but we won the one that mattered the most.

I also remember that 1997 season a shop on Lee Drive that had the Homerun total written in white shoe polish on their store front window. They'd update it every week.
What a season.
What a season.

As a 10 year old at that time, I felt the opposite. I was crushed that bama won the series that weekend not realizing we just needed to win one game to win the regular season.
As fun as 1997 was, I was crushed we didn’t win the college World Series in 1998. After we beat USC the first game, I knew for sure we were going to win it again. I still can’t believe the championship score that year was 21-14 lol. That will never happen at the new park.
