The Tigers, winners of two of the past five BCS national championships, have played just three road nonconference games against BCS teams in the past 10 seasons. They're 26-2 against non-BCS foes over that span, with the losses coming at home against UAB and Houston. You might remember when two of our top 10 bullies squared off in Baton Rouge in 2004. The Tigers, coming off the 2003 BCS national championship, escaped with a 22-21 win over Oregon State when Beavers kicker Alexis Serna missed three extra points.

How about road, non conference butt kickings against Miami, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

We include bowl games in our record. That's why we're bullies.

THEY DON'T INCUDLE BOWL GAMES BECAUSE(LSU) DOESN'T CONTROL THAT PART OF THE SCHEDULE.

We play easy non-conference games down here because we need a break. Look at USC's schedule this year. They play maybe three teams that usually are good and Notre Dame is one of those and they suck this year...again!!!

The schedules are made 5, 7, 10 years in advance. This article is worthless. We're going for our third title in 6 years. Now that's something to calculate. Go Tigers.

We would have not gotten into the NCG last season if our schedule hadn't been as tough as it was.

Here is reality;
"We" play cup cakes for more than one reason.
1)It allows "fine tuning" before entering the SEC
2)It allows the "cupcake" schools to get better. The revenues generated for those schools allows them to improve their facilities and their recruiting. If the larger schools did not do that, the smaller schools would suffer.
3)Because of # 2, that is sometimes "payback", friend to friend.

The proof of a school's schedule is in its OVERALL strength of schedule.

until we go to a playoff system, playing cupcakes is a beautiful thing.

Don't know too much about the beautiful part, but certainly necessary...
if not, it would be suicidal.

Well as far as cupcakes go i see there's no mention of the beat down we put on VT. Also, if VT would have scheudled a cupcake instead of LSU we would have been out and they would have been IN for the NCG. So eat those cupcakes cause the system will reward you.

Or play in the Pac 10 or Big 10 and have cupcakes as your main course all year long.

Much better than USC's motto:

"We play hard non-conference games over here because we can't handle 2 real games and 10 cupcakes (thanks Stanford!)"

And the PAC 10 hasn't been good since 2000, only 1 school is considered good because the whole conference is a cupcake.

Simple explanation that many of the national talking head types refuse to consider:

SEC teams schedule more "easy" OOC games because the SEC schedule is so tough (tougher teams top to bottom and tougher venues on the road top to bottom). (Currently 4 SEC teams in top 10).

Pac-10/Big 10 (ie, USC, Ohio St)- have to schedule harder OOC games to make up for the easier conference games.

Fact is - LSU played THE toughest schedule last year out of the final Top 5. USC's win over Virginia is equivalent to a top SEC team beating South Carolina - it just doesn't mean much - except that it counts in SEC standings.

I don't understand why this keeps getting brought up and those who do just display their ignorance of college football.

some series are, but when was App St added to this year's schedule

They just recently added La Tech for next year and dropped USM and there are still 2 openings on our schedule for 2010

LSU plays a crappy OOC schedule every year because "we need 7 home games" and "the SEC is so tough to begin with" and whatever other excuse the AD has offered up

frankly, there is no good excuse
