Nice post

Is the chick Brett dated for awhile whose name starts with the letters "Mar" a sore subject for you? Crazy what happened to her.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I do know and I will be sharing. And just to be clear, OP wasn't trying to get in touch with his brother, he was just saying that he had lost touch with his brother, otherwise he would've asked him. Maybe if you had focused on his statement as much as you did on responding to it, you would've picked up on this.

One of the best posts in the history of the OT.

If nothing else, it sends a clear warning shot across the bow to the 40 through 50 something crowd that don't go and get things checked out.

8 years ago an old team mate and lifelong bud, fought stomach and intestinal pain for a year and a half, finally goes to the doctor and well... it was way too late.

He sent a very heartfelt missive to many of our old "tribe" to go get a colonoscopy. He ended it with, "think about all I will miss, that I should be here for"

That's how he was. Always joking and taking everything in life in stride.
Things were light and positive that day.

He was very happy to be going home that day, especially thinking he was in the clear. I think we all just wanted to believe everything was good. We took the Crohn's diagnosis as a blessing and ignored our feelings of it possibly being more serious. And with his attitude, it was really hard to imagine that it was more serious than that. But, looking back, my gut told me differently.

Thank you for the kind words.

After conferring with a couple people on the board, I never played on the same team nor went to the same school as Brett, but I do remember his face.

Just wanted to say that even in the few games all those decades ago, I remember him which I can't really say about others on the teams I played against.

Sorry for your and everyone else's loss.

I remember him as an imposing competitor, star of his team.

This is definitely something I will be sharing with my son. Thank you for sharing.

So sorry to hear this. It’s terrifying how quickly things can progress with this disease. And that last quote is just heart breaking.
I often wonder what it would’ve been like if Bret was properly diagnosed and chose to go through chemo. Would he be alive today or would we have just prolonged the inevitable? When I start to think about it the more I am at peace with the way it happened.

I went to St George with Brett. I'm a year older. His Dad was my 8th grade football coach. Great family and great man. Thank you for such a poignant post. It appears Cohen is in amazing hands. Godspeed

Thank you for this.

Brett was coaching girls basketball the years I knew him and nobody ever had anything bad to say about him and all my memories of him involve him laughing and cutting up with other coaches and players. #Forever44

Thank you for sharing this. I didn’t know Bret back then so I love to hear things like this.
