It will be a lot easier at 6 months than it will be when they’re walking or more mobile. We flew with my 9 month old recently, and it was a giant pain in the arse. He wanted to stand on our laps & bite the head rest in front of us. When he wasn’t stereotypically trying to kick the seat back or scream like a banshee because he wanted to crawl around. Thankfully, he fell asleep right around takeoff for both flights, but ugh. It made me not want to fly anywhere again anytime soon.

My biggest advice is to buy the baby her own seat, and bring her car seat on the plane. It will be a lot easier if you have a place to contain her than it is if she’s on your laps.

Flying is about as glamorous as a Greyhound bus these days, so try not to worry about her crying or making noise. Just do what you can to keep her from physically bothering the people around you, and that’s all you can do.

We did this for one flight. It was a longer red eye flight we took. He was ~16 months at the time. He spent exactly 0 minutes in the car seat and screamed when we tried to put him in it.

We held him as he slept all night. I was awake for 36 hours that day
