Can anyone shed light on reel mowers?

I have a small yard. It is approximately 1,100 sf and has newer centipede sod on it. I previously started a thread about purchasing a battery-powered Ryobi lawnmower. I appreciate all the advice I received in that thread.
After further research, I am interested in reel mowers. They seem to be simple to maintain and do a good job, as long as you keep up with cutting the grass regularly (once per week or so). Does anyone have any experience with them in zone 9A with centipede grass?
I am familiar with the downfalls of reel mowers:
- a small stick or rock will stop the mower in its tracks
- it's more work than a rotary mower
- I'll have to go back over the lawn two or maybe even three times
- reel mowers are not the best for longer grass
The two I am interested in are the Scotts Classic and the Fiskars Staysharp 18. I believe both of these mowers allow for cuts up to 2 - 3 inches.
Thanks

Reel mowers are more for zoysia. It will rip up the runners of centipede.

Ah. I understand.
If I don't go with the reel mower, I am going to get an EGO

I've got the Scott's 20 inch. It has held up well and works great on my S. LA St. Aug grass lawn (bigger than yours, about 2,000 sq ft) until the grass starts to really grow in the summer. In the summer, I pull out my gas powered mower. But when I use the reel mower I think my grass looks better, healthier and with less weeds. I can cut at 7am without waking the neighbors or my family. It is also a good workout.

I have used a Scotts 2000-20 Reel Mower on Bermuda grass for over a year now. I chose this one over the Fiskars because it was easier to maneuver. I mow about 1500 sq ft on the lowest setting weekly and it's a cinch to sharpen. I have never had to mow anything twice. Occasionally a piece of stray mulch will annoyingly get caught in the blades, but it occurs so infrequently it's a non-issue. It is by far easier to maneuver than a power mower, assuming the bed knife is adjusted properly. I used my neighbor's Toro this past Spring to scalp my lawn for comparison. I enjoy the lack of noise as well. I do keep the grass short, but this model will cut up to 3 inches tall.
My biggest complaint is that It doesn't really mulch the grass and it doesn't come with a grass catcher. As a result, I have gotten a pretty thick layer of grass that needs to be thatched. The other complaint is that the foam on the handle tears pretty easily, so I wrapped it. Outside of that, it's perfect for my needs.

You can reel mow with centipede, with that said you don't see it too often because most people interested in reel mowing don't tend to have centipede lawns. As long as you keep up with the mowing, it's not too bad. I do mine early in the morning as it's fairly silent.
I don't go over more than once. Unless I missed a spot. If you keep it fairly sharp with backlapping you shouldn't have too many issues unless you're trying maintain something below 1inch, which you shouldn't really be doing with centipede anyway.

In my opinion, centipede needs the lift, vacuum of a rotary mower and isn’t a good fit for reels.
