Recent personal events have led me to believe this is as necessary as insurance on your vehicle.
Anyone have any experience with these? I am going to end up buying 3 or 4 to cover all vehicles so not looking to break the bank on price.

I would like for it to be discreet, mostly troublefree and have a gps chip.
I don't understand why more vehicles don't offer this as a factory option. I'd rather have a working front/rear and tamper detection camera system than a dumb alarm that honks the horn.

We've been using the Rexing F9 in our two vehicles since 2015 and like them. They cost approximately $33 each on Amazon.

been doing a little research so of course now i must have all these features

- front and rear (interior is a bonus but not required)
- small camera that uses double-sided tape and disappears behind the mirror..not some God-forsaken NIKON CAMERA-looking thing with a suction cup and LCD screen. gross.

- looks like they all have apps now and wifi so they can send/stream video to your phone if you have it on you. of course you're going to have to spring for a SD card because like 'batteries not included' in the 1970s, this is always an extra cost these days.
- 1080p/60 good quality for reading license plates
- decent night vision; this is important since you never know when something is going to happen so if you can only read license plates during the day, what's the point?
- GPS (duh, will need speed & location verification if there's an accident for insurance)
- hardwire kit. this is something i actually want to work for as long as i own the vehicle so a dangly wire connected to a 12v outlet isn't going to cut it.
- finding the 'powered only when on' wire. seems a bit tricky but if you don't connect this properly it can run your battery down when the vehicle is off
- parking mode: cameras trigger if the vehicle is bumped or anything when you're away.
- accident mode; sends video to the cloud/phone/etc upon accident detection
What am I leaving out? I want to install this and forget its there unless something happens.
i like this form factor but blackview is $$$

Viofo does all of that. I thought the wiring would be a pain in the arse, but the way cars are built make it easy.
The back camera wires to the front camera and you can see any wires until it comes out in front.
The kit to wire to the vehicle make it switch automatically depending on whether or not your car is running.
Can connect wirelessly to your phone to upload the videos if you want. I used to play with a lot it when I first got it, but now it's just checking every once in a while that it's still running
.
What took me the most time during installation was trying to figure out which Fuze spots to use in the car. But if you've done that kind of stuff before, should be straightforward.

thats my biggest concern; routing wires and find the right fuse on multiple vehicles.
is this what you have? i just went to viofo store on amazon and sorted by 'most recent'

i dont think it does interior but i'm not running a bulletproof land cruiser in south africa.

good info but a little outdated. they don't show the new viofo a139 which i'm definitely leaning towards.

Why the A139 over the A129 Pro Duo? Asking because Im getting ready to pull the trigger on the A129. Wondering what Im missing with the A139.

dont quote me because i could be wrong on a few things:
- integrated special camera lens to reduce glare
- parking lot capabilities built-in...if you get the hardwire kit for $15..that has an inline switch to avoid running your car battery down
- much smaller form factor (no more LCD screen) which i like because i want to hide this as much as possible
- voice prompts instead of beeps. the beeps from what i read get pretty annoying over time.
i'm looking at the '2 channel' (aka front & rear) over '3 channel' which includes interior and probably only useful if you're using your car to uber. i think its $229 + $15 for hardwire kit.
i'm going to get one kit and see how it works first.
eta full details are here; amazon doesn't really provide much detail

They make a polarized lens for the A129 also. I believe its ~$15. They both have the parking feature if you use the hardwire kit. I do agree with the smaller form factor. That might be a moot point though if it is mounted high and behind the rear mirror. I plan on turning the beeps off so its runs silent. My draw to the A129 is the 4k recording in h.265.
I haven't dug into the A139, but the A129 CAN support 512 GB SD cards after upgrading the firmware to 2.3+.

i saw you can toggle the h.264 to h.265 by holding the mic button (which is kinda odd) but i'm not sure if the a139 does 4k.
if this is 'looping video' how large of a storage device do you need? i assume if something happens you would download to your phone but most of the time you wouldn't care if the recording is overwritten.
(i'm still learning and digesting all this stuff..)

Following. I have a buddy who put one in every vehicle and they both have paid for themselves. I need one, but I have too many damn cars!

insurance is expensive too but you buy it to protect yourself.
i think a dash cam should be a REQUIREMENT given all the bullshite that goes on with accidents. it may not always capture the incident fully but for a couple hundred bucks i'm willing to gamble it will.

I know whichever car I chose to be the first to install, will be the wrong one. I think it's why I haven't bought one yet.
