NBC News
I’m not sure I knew anyone that ever went to Bethany Church but I was involved with several youth groups around BR in those same years. Pretty crazy stuff.

Sure.

They said the ringleader of the alleged abuse was his older brother, Joel, who tormented the interns with the help of aides known as “second years,” as well as Joel’s late wife, Amy, and current wife, Amie.

Anybody on here go to Bethany that can fill in some details? This seems a little over the top.

"They said the 40-year-old pastor is trying to preserve his public image as a hip preacher who relates to younger people and who is also the frontman for a Christian rock band called “Deluge.”
This sentence makes me chuckle.

I call bullshite on this

I'm assuming there's some truth to it, but it's colored in shrill Karen red.

There are plenty of folks that attend that church who are a little extreme.

Clubber Lang fought his way through this camp before pummeling Sylvester Stallone in "Rocky III."

WBRZ
WBRZ did a story at the end of April
I’m sure there’s truth to it, especially about being cult like but I just can’t believe they were abusive to the point of having kids soil themselves & nothing came out about it until now

The lead pastor of one of the largest churches in the capital area is apologizing for how a youth program shut down by the church years ago allegedly treated its participants. Pastor Jonathan Stockstill made a lengthy post on Facebook Wednesday apologizing for the issues reported in the 220 student ministry at Bethany Church. In his post, Stockstill said most of the problems were tied to the 220i internship program associated with the student ministry.

Fake news is a meme for a reason. "Those people are weirdo Christians and my teenager got her feelings hurt" is way different than "That church is running a SERE school and likes to make kids fight."

I've attended a service or two at the Bethany campus near Siegen Lane. I'm sure they mean well, but it is kinda cult-ish. The reverse ATMs in the lobby were a thing to behold. They also sell t-shirts just outside the main arena, as if church was a rasslin' show. There 's lots of singing and dancing and clapping. I just stood still and waited for it to pass, like a good Catholic.

That’s why my post is neutral. I’ve known and worked with several people who’ve gone to that church. ‘If’ the allegations are true - I wouldn’t be surprised. But I’m surprised that if they are true that no one has said anything before. Most of the congregation are good people - as with any church.
