Squat rack etiquette

Do ya'll think it's okay for people to do multiple exercises at the rack while people are waiting. My gym has 3 racks and last leg day I waited for 15ish minutes for these guys to finish. 1 rack a guy was alternating between bent over rows and e-z bar curls, then goes on to deadlift. Another guy using dumbbells in the rack in between squats. By the time I finished my squats, one of the guys was still going. Am I being a sourpuss?

I frequently super set squats and barbell curls

Not when other racks are full

In general, if you aren’t doing an exercise that requires a rack, you should do them away from the rack.

Do situps count?
In my mind I'd rather knock out a set of 50 situps instead of standing around for 60 seconds. What's the difference?

No, that is typically bad etiquette. Squat racks are limited, and the main use for them is for people looking to squat, OHP, and deadlift if there is not a deadlifting platform in the gym. exercises like rows, curls, pull ups, etc. can be performed outside of squat racks on other equipment or free ranged area.
that being said, there is almost always that guy doing curls in the squat rack. and that guy has to know he sucks.

I've only been going to my current gym for 4 days, but from what I've seen the norm is to get there early, do all your rack work and then head to the main area. There are only 3 racks in a gym that routinely has hundreds of people in during busy time.
I usually only do one rack exercise a day and its early morning so it isnt a big deal.
If they are having issues with people hogging racks that seems like an equipment issue.
I wouldn't do what that guy did because you can do those exercises without a rack, but at the same time I understand his mindset. Sometimes you can be waiting quite a while for a rack.

You have dumbasses too like the aforementioned bicep curlers and the occasional wannabe female crossfitter doing 55lb good mornings. We have an entire rack of barbells from 25 to 115 lbs they could use.
I had a guy once who was doing a circuit of clean and presses then some kind of burpee then gay hop over the barbell then a couple of minutes on the row machine at 5:00PM on a weekday. Tied up one of three squat/bench racks for almost an hour and was dripping sweat all over everything.

You just dicked around for 15 minutes instead of asking to rotate in? Jesus.

If there is another squat rack open then all good. But if the other racks are full, do your squats and get out. Super setting doesn’t offer anything other than saving time.
You can superset curls with any exercise that doesn’t isolate the biceps

I really do not care what you do in the rack, as long as it is done in a timely manner.
Some moron doing 3-5 sets of curls with a 30-60 second rest in between is 10x better than some meathead doing 10x5 squats with a 3-5 minute rest between sets.
I loathe people who take excessive rests between sets on any equipment.
I superset and have no issues with others doing the same, however cap it at 2 during busy times. People trying to tie up 3-5 pieces of equipment during busy hours should have their membership revoked.

What does it matter if I’m spending the same time on the rack? If I was going to rest 90 seconds without the curls, what does it matter if I spend 30 seconds doing curls and 60 seconds resting before my next set of squats?

If this is the case then no harm no foul. But in my experience this is never the case. For this to actually work you’d have to have 2 barbells (because I know you’re not squatting and curling the same weight) and you’re probably doing yourself a disservice if your curl sets only last 30 seconds

I do, but my gym has more barbells than racks.
I usually end that workout with dumbbell curls on the other side of the gym for more volume. I like to do what I call “running the rack”, not sure if that’s actually a thing or not. I start with 35s and work all the way down to 20s to failure each weight with no more than 10 seconds rest between sets. Usually I’m at 8 per set until the 20s and I try to knock out 10.

How long does it take you to do 8 to 10 reps? Because if I had to guess, it probably doesn't take me more than that. Also, you don't have to have two barbells if you are curling dumbbells...
