The hallmark of an authoritarian state is to blame an external threat to justify more control and more power. In this case, it also serves to further defame Trump since leftists believe he is in bed with the Russians. Also, Snowden's revelations, as published by Glenn Greenwald, have detailed how the CIA has the ability to hack into systems and leave a Russian hallmark that would have one think it was them.

The Deep State federal government has destroyed their integrity, no one should blindly trust anything they say at this point. Look at the past 15-20 years of government corruption and scandal, the federal government and it’s related agencies have brought this mistrust on themselves.
