For argument’s sake, let’s say that climate change actually was responsible for the ice melting.

Umh, how’d the crap get there in the first place? Apparently it was accessible in the recent past and hasn’t been blocked off by ice since the Ice Age. So it was apparently warm enough back then to use as a shelter. What do they think the soldiers burrowed holes through the ice cap to get to the cave?
