There’s nothing nefarious about it just because it’s a government. They had a vested interest in the product being developed for a wholly unique situation.

Again, this entire thread really just comes off as “big pharma bad” *grunt*

Correct, but to say they took no government funding is splitting hairs.

Why we are only talking about the one entity that went for profits, not the other suppliers. nttawt

I think you're smarter/more thoughtful than this. True, what you describe may be the case for some, but let's not discuss something like liberals and sweep everybody into convenient boxes.

Nefarious implies something immoral or criminal. I don't think I've seen a single argument that suggests immorality or criminality. Why go there?

The rational argument is it's not what we want from our government. You argue "vested interest" and "wholly unique situation," but understand that people just as smart and just as worldly/thoughtful as you don't agree with that characterization. Some of us see a contrived situation that resulted in the enrichment of a few at the expense of many, all based on an unfortunate virus.

A lot of really smart people also look at precedents that have been set with the COVID shitshow, and really don't look forward to life in a country where government has assumed so much control. Think about it - five years ago did you ever imagine Americans being locked out of their businesses, schools, churches, being forbidden from attending funerals and weddings, etc., etc? What's happened the last 12 months should alarm the hell out of everybody - Right, Center and Left.

"Big pharma bad" and a *grunt* implying, perhaps, that someone that has grown skeptical of big pharma is somehow not intelligent or sophisticated. If that's the implication, you're wrong. Big pharma, and big medicine broadly, has proven that what most believed 25 years ago - that medicine was apolitical and somehow free of drivers like greed and a willingness to cheat/steal - simply isn't the case. Healthcare is no different than any other industry. Doctors and administrators are no more virtuous than professionals of any other type. You probably know better than most here why this is legitimately the case.
