When the water drain slows to a trickle or so, dump some salt into ice chest.
But why tho?

LSU study suggests that adding salt to water to "purge" really doesn't matter;
Effectiveness of a Saltwater Bath in Purging Crawfish
quote:
In conclusion, preparing crawfish for cooking by immersion in a water bath, with or without salt, for a short time will often provide some degree of cleansing, although this is mainly associated with exterior surfaces and the gill cavity where debris can accumulate. The amount of digesta in cooked crawfish subjected to an adequate wash may not be discernible from nonwashed crawfish; however, washing will lessen the amount of debris shed during the cooking process. There is no evidence from this study that suggests the use of salt in cleansing crawfish was beneficial, but results do indicate that a saltwater bath may contribute to increased mortality, if washed crawfish are subjected to refrigerated storage for several days prior to cooking. Conventional commercial style purging for 12 hours or longer is the only known way to significantly reduce the size of the hindgut in cooked crawfish, and that method is usually not practical for consumers.

Because apparently a boomer failed to teach a millennial how to do it?

To offer a rebuttal: As a "Boomer" it is quite possible the "Millennial" was far too busy playing on his computer, game boy, Wii or some other electronic device that is so precious to them that they had so little time to learn basic life skills.
Just how many 20 something year old males can't even fathom how to change a flat tire today????

I have one of these. Works like a charm without a lot of lifting over and over again.
I’ve been using one of these. My neighbor uses the “don’t overthink it” , “easy peasy” garden hose pour and tub method. He used to think he was getting them very clean because the water came out clear.
We then poured his clean crawfish into my crawfish cleaner tub and were both amazed at how filthy the water quickly turned. We could both taste a difference between the more clean and less clean crawfish.
The difference was like spending your life eating grocery store boudin from Zummo’s and then discovering Billy’s.

20 year olds aren't millennials.

Didn't specify 20 year old's. I said 20 something year old people, and the accepted Millennial birth dates range from 1981 to 1996, and if born near the latter date, they are still in their mid to late 20's.
Do the math.
