Check in here to discuss with spoilage

I thought it was awesome, though I’m slightly disappointed that we don’t even get to see the tournament. I would have enjoyed the movie more knowing up front that it’s a prequel/setup to another movie or more movies. Goro was nerfed.
Cole sucks. Sub zero is amazing and a boss. Scorpion is awesome. Cano was the best part of the movie other than the scorpion/sub zero fights.
I give it an A+ as long as we get to see the tournament and a sequel.

Overall I liked it, it was a fun movie. One complaint would be Shang Tsung, who was a pretty bad miscast IMO. This guy is fine in other stuff but didn’t come across as very menacing here. I just kept seeing the “calculations “ guy from Dark Knight.

I liked how they showed the Johnny cage movie poster and it suggest their will be a sequel and CAGE will be in this one

Seems like a lot of folks here loved it.

My son and I watched it today, had been looking forward to it.
We both thought it sucked overall

Kano was okay. Opening scene was great. Sonya was hot.

Cole was weak, and his whole subplot was a bit too sappy for this (oh look, there's his cute little girl sitting in the corner, yelling 'don't tap out daddy').

Some of the CGI was bad; I almost think Goro looked better in the 90's movie.

Can't quite put my finger on why it disappointed me... I think it just never committed. It had some camp, but didn't go as full-on camp as it could have. But if not campy, it should have gone more combat-oriented, and I really wasn't impressed with the fights at all, technically. I'm also watching Warrior on HBOMax, and this doesn't come anywhere near that show. Sonya does a spin move at one point, and the video cut to her landing is just obvious. They don't switch to a different angle, there's just a frame-jump and suddenly she's on one knee.

Remember how Star Wars threw in the chopped-off arm scene, to make it to PG? That's exactly what this film did. A couple of finishing moves have enough gore to make it R, otherwise it would be ok for TV without any cuts. Even the language isn't that much worse than you might see on network TV.

Was it fun to watch a new movie? Sure. But I don't see myself looking to rewatch this. I'd rather watch the old movies or the TV series.

I enjoyed it, it’s probably the best you can do to adapt mortal kombat to film. Sub zero was a total badass and they nailed him and scorpion down. I feel like Raiden was terribly cast. Some of the dialogue and acting was a tad cringe at times, especially around Cole and his wife. Really don’t see why we were introduced to him as a character and wasn’t impressed with his speciality.

Look forward to hopefully getting a sequel with Johnny Cage and some other characters.

They didn’t really tell us what cole’s powers were once he got the gold suit. He got a couple of swords? He could have bought those on the street.
