I figure if there were ever a time when folks could have the opportunity to weasel their way into jobs that they may have previously not been qualified for, it's right now. Not that there's tons of sudden upward mobility and pay involved, but definite jumping ahead a few notches without the previous requirement of "earning" it. Lots of opportunity that's not being seized upon.
ETA...."weasel their way into" may not be the best verbiage there on my part. Perhaps "have the good fortune" is a better description of the situation.

A lot of employers are still strict when it comes to applicants. The trades are suffering as well. It doesn't help that some of these jobs pay nothing but offer zero benefits and I mean little or no health insurance.
I don't care much for the pay but the benefits are more important to me. I applied as a custodian for a school district. It is low pay but you are a state employee. If you work five years or more then you are already invested in the school retirement pension program. That itself is worth the trouble.
But people look down on jobs like that but can't see the forest from the trees.

I just got hired for a job in the trades that I really wasn't qualified for, but they are training me and everything. @$25 an hour at that with full benefits

Hoping that's the case. My son has a degree, but has been working at Whole Foods in California.
He's quitting and coming to Arkansas. I told him there are jobs.
He has a degree in economics, but could only find jobs in San Francisco and he couldn't afford the rent.
The pandemic pushed him over the edge. He hates Newsome.

I don’t think anyone is quitting their good paying job to live off of their stimulus. What notches are they climbing to? Head waiter? Move from the fries to the drive through? The jobs they are quitting are low wage jobs they can easily return to when they run out of money.
