What year(s) of CFB were the peak of sheer fanaticism and religious zealotry of fandom?

I guess this question is hard to answer because fandom ebbs and flows based on the status of your team- whether they are good or bad.
But I definitely do agree with the sentiment that cfb had a much more devoted fan following between 2000-2010, than between 2011-2021
Peak cfb really seemed to be 2005-2009 or so, at least in my opinion.
These were the years when all the games became more widely available, but also the years right before the superteams and analytics and what not.
I could be way off on this, but there is just a feeling I have that a lot of fans realize it is no longer the same. The sport has evolved and become more business-like and less spontaneous.
Not a good or a bad trend, just a trend.
It could also simply be that as we grow older, we grow less passionate about the teams because we have seen it all at that point.

2007 was one of the best years to be a CFB fan

Whatever years you were in middle school through college. So for this board it'll be somewhere from 1995-2010

That was the era of Conference zealotry.
So fandom was high. Big10 was still getting tons of love. Pac12 had USC and the media love.
SEC was pissed and there was this South vs. West Coast thing going on.
Everyone started to be on TV...games were on during the week.
But they saturated it.
Viewing #s still didn't touch the 80's. Where games were fewer and events. CFB hasn't seen remotely the ratings for the big games as it did in the 80's.
The 1987 Fiesta Bowl is still the highest rated and the only game that comes close in the 2000's was the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Centered around 2003.

More games and more entertainment options will do that.

Mid to late 00's to 2015ish. Also 2019 was out of this world amazing. Seriously, nothing will ever get better than that.

I don't buy that argument for the big games.
Either you're a fan or not.
It's not like people just put on the 1987 Fiesta Bowl if they didn't care or like football.
That game was played on a Friday night when everyone is going out on dates. It wasn't like a Sunday, when nothing is on TV either and people are staying at home.

2007 was one of my favorite times for football weekends.
Play varsity game on Friday
All day of CFB Saturday
NFL Sunday
Maybe the occasional Thursday night big East game

When did people stop attending games? Mid-2010s?
The prevalent non sellouts seemed to occur in the CFP Era. Not sure if it's really related, though.

The 07 year was the peak. Not just saying that because I'm an LSU fan, just every week there were wild finishes and crazy upsets every week around the country. Can't remember a more fun season start to finish.
I hate to say it but I miss the days when USC was a dominant power. Oregon and even Stanford for a brief moment never really replaced the aura that USC had in those days, plus USC was such a heel for non-USC fans that Oregon and Stanford could never hope to be.

It was much better during those years. 07 and 08 are memorable seasons, IMO

Early to mid 2000’s has to be the golden era of college football
Offenses were advanced enough to be entertaining, but teams still played defense. Fan interest was pretty high everywhere even in soyboy country. Conference realignment hadn’t ruined most of the traditional rivalries yet. The SEC hadn’t been completely cucked by Saban yet and there was a lot of parody in the sport (especially 2007).
Really good times to be a CFB fan

2000-2010.
Can remember that miami-OSU double overtime championship like it was yesterday.
was in 5th grade and was jumping up and down cause I won the bowl pick’em on the tie breaking score going over.
Then 2003 and 2007 was great of course as an lsu fan
