Wouldn't a 6mm Creedmoor fire out of a 243 barrel?

There was a guy that came in the local gunshop the other day, he had tried to chamber one 6.5 round, into the chamber of another type of 6.5 rifle. I guess he tried to use a hammer on the bolt handle to get it to chamber, because he broke the bolt handle off. He brought it in to see if it could be fixed and still had the round stuck in the gun.
The owner called him all kinds of stupid, got the round out, handed the gun back to him and told him to take it home and never touch another firearm.
what the hell, go ahead and try it.

Bullet “width?”

The diameters of the bullets for every “6mm anything” and every “243 everything” are not only within 3 hundredths of a mm of each other, they are exactly the same. This does not imply that any of those chamberings’ ammo should be interchanged unless the shooter’s aim is injury or firearm damage.

No, you could nit get the 6 cm in the .243.

The 6 cm is a straight wall case and the .243 has a taper.
Besides that the case on the 6cm is shorter.

There is a technique called fire forming a cartridge but the cartridge needs to be pretty close to the chamber prior to fire forming.

Shouldn't one be 0.308?

No he was comparing a .243 round to a 6mm round. the 6mm uses a 6.5 cm casing and the .243 uses a .308 win casing.

Bullet diameter is the same for both @ .243. The parent casing used for the two rounds are 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Win which are different.
