Welfare wouldn't compete with what a waitress could earn at an understaffed restaurant. Sorry, not buying the manager's excuse.

Not only that, but what a sour and inappropriate conversation to have with patrons. It’s a wonder people aren’t flocking to work for him.

Stimulus + regular UE + Medicaid/healthcare subsidies + housing vouchers + recent student loan forgiveness + etc etc etc definitely can compete with a waitress’ total comp in many parts of the country. That’s not hard to buy at all.

Powell and co. likely anticipated much of it. I tend to think they’re wildly under-estimating inflationary pressures at the moment, but they certainly knew some of this was coming.

If there were waitresses out there that actually wanted to work that might be a good point.

To a large percentage of the populace just getting by is good enough. Actually busting arse is out of the question for them, no matter the financial benefit.

This is just totally incorrect and shows you are completely unaware of how out of control our welfare state is.

In Virginia unemployment is the equivalent to 20 an hour.

At its peak, I believe the Federal unemployment scheme put you on track to make 52k?

Oh look, the IT gov leach knows all about restaurant staffing.

I have news for you. Restaurants are indeed struggling with staffing all across the country.

You overestimate some people’s want to work for the difference in unemployment and what they would actually make. A lot would rather sit on their asses and make 2-3 hundred less a week to do nothing.

That isn’t the issue though. The mentality is basically if it can’t move you into the next “lifestyle” it isn’t worth working for the small change in cash. The idea of saving and planning isn’t gonna generate likes, follows, admiration from neighbors/friends/random people in public.
