Eh, this was in need of cutting. You already have GI Bill benefits, so these were in addition to that. Effectively there were service members that were getting Bachelors then Masters degrees (many from the equivalent of Univ of Phoenix) then passing their GI Bill to their kid.

Maybe for your MOS. However, to be competitive with their civilian counterparts, professional certifications are needed.

In the case of my MOS, the Army will pay to get your Security+. Anything above that you only get funded if you are in NETCOM or a 26A (CCNA).

When you are a required to have a degree/ master’s degree for promotion, TA is critical. Under Obama TA waxed and waned constantly.

Many major corporations cover advanced degrees and if the military wants to compete with the private sector then they shouldn’t be cutting these programs.
As to the University of Phoenix, 10 years ago there weren’t a lot of online options, now there are a lot more. When you are forced to move on a regular basis or sent to crappy places these online schools filled a void.

Yeah, there are tons of stupid stuff to cut as well, but I'm not going to deride cutting something that's stupid just because a Dem did it.

You need a degree nowadays for promotion, especially E7 and above. No reason not to use TA on active duty and save the GI Bill for later. One of the draws of the new GI Bill is the ability to pass on the benefits. You seem to think that's a bad thing. Why?
