The one I had in high school was on a 99 gmc Ext cab.

It was a complete suspension lift. All the ball joints, A arms, sway bars, torsion keys, front CV axles, driveshafts were replaced to match the lift. That’s the only way to properly do a big lift so nothing is in a bind

Drove that truck 180k miles and never had to replace anything more than brakes and a couple u joints.

Thanks, all great input. I'll prolly do the 4.5" and keep the stock wheels and put a little bigger of a tire on it. My primary reason for wanting to even lift it is that the 2.5" level I have on it now has the front end angles pretty bad so I figured id take the hit on ground clearance on the diff drop and correct the angles. Not trying to have a ginormous truck (or put on 37's) just to have it, the equal pricing in the 4" and 6" was just making me wonder if it would be dumb to not get the taller one.

he 6" lift was a pretty extensive front end modification.
I know a dude with a lifted 15 Chevy. idk specifics but do know they cut a cross member up front that the diff drop lift replaced. F that imo, shits permanent.

Yeh they all require cutting over 4" I believe or atleast trimming, thats the only way to correct the angles on the front end I think. Permanent but idk dealers around here sell lifted trucks they lift themselves and sell used lifted trucks all the time. Could always sell it. BDS is top of the line is what I am concussing but a little out of what I'm trying to pay at the moment.

You will be amazed at how much less trouble you will have with the truck without all of those modifications. Welcome to the old man club.

Pretty much how it went with me .
I am enjoying being able to utilize my bed much easier.
Not having to replace steering and suspension parts.
Worry about oversized tires and towing because I was too cheap to re-gear my truck.
Looking at my tooth pick 10 bolt rear axle with 37s
Worry about parking because my steering radius is reduced
Alignments etc.
